MITO, Japan, Nov. 19 (Kyodo) _ Former U.S. President Bill Clinton on Tuesday urged Japanese high school students to interact with people of different nationalities and religions to create a better world.
He spoke to 1,700 students in the city of Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture on international affairs and Japan-U.S. relations. He stressed cooperation among people of different cultural backgrounds is indispensable in making the international community free from the threat of terrorism.
On North Korea, Clinton praised Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's landmark visit to Pyongyang in September, saying he expects Japan to play a big role to deter the North from developing nuclear weapons by cooperating with the U.S. and South Korea.
A local civic group formed in April invited the former president. According to the group, Clinton is to meet university students in the prefecture on Wednesday, but his itinerary has not been disclosed.

No. The correct word is "giajin," which means foreign devil or horned devil.

Hardline anti-commy Governor Shintaro Ishihara called Clinton (as well as Carter) essentially 'naive assholes' when it comes to North Korea and how to deal with them. This said on national TV talk show last Sunday!

I wonder if Bubba proposed an cross cultural "interaction" to any of the female students. Or had his staff propose it.

Dude, none of you people know anything. Before WWII the Japanese used to call foriegners, "Ketoh," which means hairy bastard or "Batah-kusai" which means "stinks like butter" because of the foriegners dependance on dairy products. You must realize that before WWII, no foriegner had touched Japanese land before the 1860s except for a chosen few, and the treated their genetic brothers, the Koreans and Chinese like slaves. The word "Gaijin" means "outside person" and has been banned by the media (though i use the word myself all the time) and has been replaced by "Gaikokujin" which means "outside country person." No Japanese person has so much disrespect for foreigners in this age except the mafia and splinter politic groups, because to be a child in Japan means you must learn English under a foriegner during junior and high school, and to be an adult means your children are taught by foriegners and foriegners are ALWAYS SEEN in non-stereotypical views displayed on TV. Sean Camus, Kent Dellicut, Kaiya, etc etc.....

I was raised in Japan in the 1950's (Army brat). The Japanese kids called us "gaijin" all the time. Our maid, Masako, provided the translation.

Akiko Uchida, a local high school student hands out a bouquet of flowers to the former President Bill Clinton following his speech in front of a young audience of the Mito Youth Forum 2002 in Mito, 100 km (63 miles) northeast of Tokyo, Japan Tuesday, Nov 19, 2002. How much sake does it take to make a person's face look like that?? I see he's coloring his hair again.

ano yatsu. damasareyasui yatsura (in reference to both Clinton and Carter). He particularly spit out venom about Carter and his trip to see Kim Il Sung to 'cool things down' which ended up making things even worse, now.
This was on Tahara Soichiro's Sunday show.

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton on Tuesday urged Japanese high school students to interact with people of different nationalities and religions I think Clinton just called the Japanese racist a-holes. Suppose he had said "Former U.S. President Bill Clinton on Tuesday urged US caucasian high school students to interact with people of different nationalities and religions."

SAKE, SAKE, SAKE, not sushi! I'm not translating anything. I had planned to use SAKE but, in deference to those unfamiliar with the brew, opted for the more popular "fast food" of Japan .... Sushi. Now, that's good eats.
