Doc Blanchard, Running Back
Army, 1944-1946, Mr. Inside. Mr. Outside, was Glenn Davis. While Davis put up huge numbers with his speed and quickness on the outside, Felix "Doc" Blanchard was the better overall football player with superior blocking and receiving skills to go along with his rushing exploits. As fast as Davis was, Blanchard also had a set of wheels running the 100-yard dash in 10 seconds. With his power and receiving skills, he was a complete back. With his skills as a kicker, punter and defensive back, he was a complete player.
He enlisted in the Army and after a year in basic training and the Air Force's ground school, he hit West Point running in 1944 a year after Davis arrived. The two went on to create the most lethal 1-2 punch college football has ever seen leading the way to a 27-0-1 record In their time together, Blanchard and Davis combined for 97 touchdowns.
