"The Impatient Yankee"

So, have you heard about that Yankee fellow that drove his car into the ditch outside of town? I hear he was in an awful big hurry.
Luckily for him, Old Man Henry came by about that time with that big strong horse of his.
He hitched Blaze up to that fancy car and yelled, "Pull, Nellie, pull!" Blaze didn't move.

"Pull, Buster, pull," Old Man Henry called out. Through it all Blaze just stood there,
even when Old Man Henry hollered, "pull, Charlie, pull!"

That Yankee fellow was getting mighty impatient by the time Old Man
Henry nonchalantly said, "pull, Blaze, pull", and Blaze dragged that car out and up on the road.
Although our Yankee visitor was grateful he couldn't resist pointing out to Old Man Henry that he'd gotten out sooner if he hadn't called his horse by the wrong name three times.

"Son," Old Man Henry said, in that patient way he's got.
"You best be glad I did. Blaze is blind. If he thought he was the only one pulling, he wouldn't even try."

"Rules or Relationship?"

"Step on a crack, break your mama's back." That was just one of
the rules that governed our childhood play. There's no way my mama
can appreciate the lengths my sisters and I went to in order to
protect her vertebrae. It was a hard rule to follow. Once you start
looking, there are cracks everywhere!

Of course, that was childhood. We adults don't have rules like that,
right? Wrong! I've known Christians who are all about rules. The
problem is this, rules equal religion and religion doesn't satisfy
the hungry soul of man; a relationship with the Father does. Let me
give you some good news and a promise.

The good news comes from Micah 6:8."He has showed you, O man, what
is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to
love mercy, and to walk humbly with the Lord your God."

And here's the promise. If you actively pursue an intimate
relationship with the Lord, He'll let you know what He likes and
dislikes and--I'm quoting now--"His yoke is easy and His burden is
light!" You know...I'm bigger now, I might just go find a crack and
step on it!
