The U.S. Supreme Court has finally put an end to the year-long misuse of public funds by the notorious Mary Frances Berry, head of the U.S. Commission of Civil Rights.

Without comment, the court yesterday declined to review a unanimous ruling of the U.S. Court of Appeals that forbade Berry from blocking President Bush's appointment of Peter Kirsanow to sit on the commission.

Put me with those who advocate taking the fight to the enemy. Actively taking on these poseurs is the right thing to do and bolsters morale of the faithful.

Would someone PLEASE give me an example of a modern-day "genuine civil-rights issue"?

The only ones I can think of involve stifling of conservative voices on college campuses, and the prevalence of black-on-white "hate crime."

Add to that similarly biased employment quotas and work environments, then I could claim victimhood based on years of economic and psychologically inflicted scars.

Just tell me when I can let out my breath and contact the local Commission office for them to take my 14th Amendment based legal claims and file suit for someone melanin-challenged like me.

The only place I can recall hearing it before was in connection with the Haun's Mill Massacre, when it was uttered by one of the perpetrators just before he shot a very young boy in the head. I assume the saying dates back further than that, but I don't who coined it.

"Good" plan?? Such is the approach for democracy in 3rd-world African countries. Show up, vote, and they stamp an indelible ink that can't be washed off on your hand. Berry is proposing voting techniques that only the world's illiterate and backward use. Let her go initiate her reforms in Zimbabwe or Uganda. I for one would be glad to be rid of her.

No. I was under the general impression that it was stated by Custer a short time before Little Big Horn, during a raid on an Indian village in which children were ordered killed. When I do a google search, General Sherman's name comes up in a letter to Grant (1864) shortly before Sherman's March to the Sea during the War between the States. The only thing I can find easily about the Haun's Hill massacre is that it happened in conjunction with Mormons in Oct. 1838.

So it now appears to be a common saying and perhaps it will be difficult to trace authoritatively.
