"New Terror Threat (to American children) in Indonesia"

The Al Qaeda-linked network that carried out the October 12 nightclub bombings on Indonesia's resort island of Bali is planning to strike international schools in Jakarta, Indonesia, The New York Times reported on Monday, citing Western and Indonesian officials.

The plan to attack Western students at the schools was uncovered in the last few days, and officials said the schools would be closed until at least Wednesday, the Times said in its online edition.

Officials declined to say precisely how they had learned of the plot, but the United States and Australia have stepped up intelligence gathering in Indonesia since the Bali attack, which killed more than 180 people, including many Australians, the newspaper said.

Based on information from Western intelligence agencies, diplomats said the planned attack was directed primarily at the Jakarta International School, (http://www.jisedu.org/) which has 2,500 students, about a third of whom are Americans, the paper said.

Diplomats told the Times the Australian and British schools also plan to close, the report said.

They are to remain closed until Indonesian police provide adequate security, one diplomat told the newspaper.

The plotters are thought to be a cell within the Al Qaeda network of Muslim extremists that has carried out several terrorist actions in Indonesia, and nearly succeeded in blowing up the American, Australian, British and Israeli embassies in Singapore last December, officials told the newspaper.

We must remember that these SOBs want to trigger such a response from us that all muslims will join their Pan-Islam world war against us and modernity.

Killing our babies is a given as targets not collateral damage.

We are into a war of annihilation so if we don't destroy our foe, they will murder our children's children.

I would have nuked Mecca, and all its filthy inhabitants, on 9/12/01... Along with Kabul, Bagdad, Damascus, Cairo, and I could go on for days.

You are absolutely right Sir, so would I.

Are these Muslim Terrorists so stupid as to think that by killing a bunch of innocent children, they will somehow win over world public opinion, and strengthen their cause???

The only thing they will have accomplished is to unite more people and nations to fight for their destruction. End result is that these idiots would cut their own throats.

She is so liberal that she doesn't understand!

I have some liberal friends who take the same point of view that she does. It's not that they don't understand, it's that they don't want to understand.

Mean, bad people are "us" rather than "them" because, after all, it is easier to deal with us instead of them. So if we just pretend that all of the world's problems are because of our own internal politics we can just vote probelms away. That would be a safer and less scary world.

The Lefties want to live in a safe world so badly that they would give up their safty to preserve the illusion of a safe world.

Gosh...what a bunch of losers. When Mohammad was sniping folks in DC, there were more than a few freepers saying that closing VA schools was just "giving in to the terrorists."

We should keep these schools open shouldn't we?

I appreciate your thoughts and concerns and agree with them. It is extremely difficult for me to wrap my mind around the idea of killing every member of one of the world's largest religions and then patting myself on the back saying "job well done". It is just too insane; but it may be necessary in the end.

That said, I really hate to see all of these "nuke mecca" comments, as I think more sutle methods are available to us. For instance those Hellfire missles. Following their next terrorist act, pick a single significant target in Mecca and take it out. Accuracy is key, show them strength and show them that we will deal harshly with another attack. If they continue to act as terrorists, then we will have to excalate to other methods.

I have a friend who lives in Jakarta. She blamed Bali on Bush's agenda.

She's gone native.

What I mean is that she's gone native in the context of the (non-military) expat community. NGOs, charities, journos, church groups. All infested by leftie America haters. To "survive" in such an environment, you're either constantly deferring to political discussions ("I don't have any political opinions") or simply mouthing the phrases of these people as an automated response.

Personally, when working overseas I found myself being constantly grilled about American foreign policy by leftie Americans, Brits, Germans, and French, sometimes in a fairly aggressive manner. I'd try to defer, but if they kept it up I'd apprise them of things like 1776, WWI, and WWII.

I even said "Seig Heil" once to a German who was ranting about Americans being "controlled by the Jews." He'd spent enough time around Americans to know he'd crossed the line.

I SECOND ...

I'm not sure what good it will do, but SOMETHING drastic may have to be done to drive a stake through the hearts of these ghouls. I'm afraid this is going to be a long, and very bloody, war.

This must become a serious proposal.

You know, sometimes I wonder if America (the grassroots) really tracks, notices or even cares for its citizens overseas

There are three answers to that, AIT (from me, a former expat):

1) Americans (the grass roots) don't understand why you would want to work overseas in the first place. There is little to no understanding of the role 38,000 Americans play in Japan. As you know, only expats understand why someone might want to be an expat.

2) Even if they wanted to care, America's news reporting of foreign events is dismal, inadequate, agenda-driven, and very frequently flat-out wrong (as I recall shaking my head in bafflement at the hysterical, left-wing American news reporting which bore absolutely no factual resemblance to the country where I was once sleeping, eating, and working).

3) At the individual level, U.S. embassy personnel can be real saints and great people, even if a bit constrained by their professional roles. But at the institutional level the State Dept. views expats as U.S. citizens who should either be left alone, warned, or evacuated (those are the three options). There's not much room for nuance in the way State handles its risk assessments, and so - when they hear of them - the American people get a very gross and imprecise understanding of what is actually happening in other countries.

BTW, I have a friend in Indo right now, managing the project which I turned down 2 1/2 years ago. I had to weigh the risk of having my wife in Jakarta, and didn't like the odds. He on the other hand has his wife and kids safely tucked-away in Europe, which works for him.

What lovely people. Attacking little kids in school.

The phrase "lower than whale shit" comes to mind.

Guess that makes me intolerant.

There comes a point, where I would rather concede to their moral victory... and vanquish the enemy. At least, I might live to repent for my wrongs.
