Rush Update - New Streaming Audio Links

Posted on 11/18/2002 11:56:05 AM PST by SlickWillard

It's a strange day when you think of Windows Media and Real Audio as open standards. Sadly, most of Rush's affiliates require some sort of plugin, and I'm getting so paranoid about spyware that I hate to install that crap anymore. A handful of stations still use the "open" standards, but the only one that worked for me was WLS-Chicago over Real Audio [and quite frankly, Real Audio is starting to bear a disturbing resemblance to spyware]. WABC-NY [which has pretty good pipes for Sean Hannity's show] chooses to replay Curtis & Kuby during Rush.

I haven't had a problem at Rush's site, but instead of bitching, I subscribed.

Subsciber dittos from this quarter!

Coolest thing about subscribing is you can get the high points of the show without listening to the whole 3 hrs. And I can't listen at work (though I hear a little in my car on the way to lunch and back), so I catch the highlight version on the 24/7 site.

Is there some reason you don't want to listen by clicking on the link at rushlimbaugh.com? Any time my local station starts running some stupid local story instead of his show, I just go to his site and pick it up from his stream.

I have Rush on in the background most days. His monologue about Daschle's comments on the war on terror was something I will never forget. I don't listen that carefully on most days and I don't listen on the web......

Sometimes people over-react when there is the slightest difficulty....

This problem includes internet radio altogether. I have real audio, I have windows media player...but I also have Netscape 7.0 and do not have Internet Explorer. I have listened to NCAA basketball games via Internet using Real Audio since 1995. Is a hobby of mine. Seems Microsoft has struck again here. It is my understanding that the Chaincast plugin does not work with Netscape 6.0 and higher. When I try to connect to a station, it shuts down and I get the "illegal operation" message, and it shuts down the Netscape browser. So, what the station are saying, or what Microsoft wants me to do just to listen to NCAA hoops is download thier IE browswer which comes with the Chaincast plugin, and it will work. I just don't have the space on my HD to support two browsers. So, they've about got me. Didn't Microsoft just have to go to court because of doing stuff like this?

Thanks for posting these. I'll try some tomorrow. I've tried Rush's late, lamented free link but found the audio quality of his miserly 6kbps stream to be hard to listen-to. Perhaps one of these other links will provide higher-bitrate, higher-quality audio.

KSFO doesn't have a link to the stream. It's a contractual thing.

The WLS link [Real Audio] was providing an awesome signal today. I guess we'll find out whether it wilts under the strain of all those orphaned EIB listeners.
