She admitted it one time a few years ago. She can be very tart tounged (or keyboard fingered), but also offers some very unique insights. Unlike her loveable fuzz ball boss, she's much harder edged.

Rush is finally addressing this, on Wednesday, 11-20-2002, about 12:50 PM EST.

Bottom line: They didn't want to continue paying for the free stream.

Also: "It's not fair to the people who are subscribing..."

Frankly, he sounds a little defensive. [Actually, more than a little...]

You want to tell me that fat sport annoucer deserves $30 from all right wingers to add to all his millions! I say no! and Hell NO ! He has it better than most of us combined. We made him. He did not make us!

Hey, it's a free country. Don't pay. No problem. I don't pay either. Too tight a budget. But guess what? I hear him free on the radio, when I'm off. Sometimes I get his show taped on cassette.

In a way, though, Rush made me. He promoted Windows 95. I used Windows to get on-line. So, he laid the ground work to a large extent for the internet boom, which aided this forum's growth.

When you turn on that radio and "listen for free", it is because someone else is paying the bills (in this case, advertisers). Now, reapeat after me: THERE AIN'T NO SUCH THING AS FREE LUNCH"!!!!

Huh? I'm forced to pay the advertisers? I never saw the bill in the mail....

I hope you were joking- because whether or not YOU personally "pay" the advertisers, they ARE paid (or the show is canceled toute suite!)

However, the economic argument does not hinge entirely on the transfer of money- because theree ARE advertisers, you are more or less forced to use some of your time listening to their pitch.

Oh, you say, I always turn the volume down, so I get to skip the advertisemnets... In that case, you are "paying" by having fewer minutes of actual programming to listen to.

Of course, if you subscribe to Rushes premium website, you can listen to any show broadcast over the past 14 days, WITHOUT any interruptions, anytime you choose. I find this to be worth the twelve cents a show it costs me.

You may not- I don't make my living trying to convince people to lisyten to Rush, so it doesn't matter to me what you do. But the complete lack of understanding of basic economics bothers me. (Of course, it really isn't taught in American schools, except as a subset of the Socialist indoctrination that goes on there...)

There's another dynamic: available cash. Someone low income will pay advertisers a lot less than someone high income. The radio payment plan is more progressive than anything the Feds ever concocted. In my case, it's 0.

No, it is NOT "zero"- unless your time is worthless- because you are either wasting your time listening to commercials for some stupid weight-loss product or a horribly expensive bed, OR you are tuning these out and twiddling your thumbs (or whatever). In either case, you are only getting 36 minutes of actual "show" per hour.

By subscribing, I can hear the entire 3-hour Rush show at anytime or place I wish (including at work), plus I can hear it in under two hours, because all of the "breaks" are trimmed out for me.

I make $50.00 + an hour- so I figure that I am actually MAKING at least $50.00 every time I listen!
