Location: Moran's (downtown) in the WTC area 103 Washington St. New York, NY 10006

Location is still tentative as we are still negotiating for private room, which they usually don’t open unless it’s a group of 70.

Moran's Homepage

This landmark location, built in 1897, was formally an inn and later became St. George's Chapel during the Depression in 1929. St. George's Chapel catered to the local merchants and residents, which were mostly of Syrian Catholic descent. This area came to be known as "Little Syria." In 1979 the church retired, and the Moran family acquired and converted the site and began operating on December 26, 1986.

You can find the current ping list on my home page and I will update it with all who show interest.

Please freepmail me with any ideas or suggestions so this can be a wonderful gathering. I have been emailing back and forth with Firebrand planning the party and we are going to have a very nice turnout.

has a view of ground zero

Unless you've never seen it before and just want to see where the atrocity took place, there's really nothing to see there now -- just a big hole in the ground.

Thanks, LMDC....for NOTHING!

Are all the memorials still set up around the church? Last time I was near there was in early September.

Yep,

I wanted to stress that there is a view. Not a good view, or a great view. Just a "view". I am not a fan of the picture taking tourist ghouls, but for those that want to observe with respect, I think the Wintergarden has the best "view".

I've made two transAtlantic trips already this year, and my budget just won't spring for another one...not to mention the fact that I've only got three vacation days over Christmas. But, next year...I'll be there. :-)

The tree is only called a peanut tree, darling, it's not actually growing peanuts. ;)

From the Good Earth Peanuts Company

How The Peanut Plant Grows

The peanut is unusual because it flowers above the ground, but fruits below the ground. Typical misconceptions of how peanuts grow place them on trees (like walnuts or pecans) or growing as a part of a root, like potatoes.

Peanut seeds (kernels) grow into a green oval-leafed plant about 18 inches tall which develop delicate flowers around the lower portion of the plant. The flowers pollinate themselves and then lose their petals as the fertilized ovary begins to enlarge. The budding ovary or "peg" grows down away from the plant, forming a small stem, which extends to the soil. The Peanut embryo is in the tip of the peg, which penetrates the soil. The embryo turns horizontal to the soil surface and begins to mature taking the form of peanut. The plant continues to grow and flower, eventually producing some 40 or more mature pods. From planting to harvesting, the growing cycle takes about four to five months, depending on the type or variety. The peanut is a nitrogen-fixing plant; its roots form modules which absorb nitrogen from the air and provides enrichment and nutrition to the plant and soils.

The famous American scientist, George Washington Carver, tried to find all sorts of uses for the peanut. He came up with over 300. ;)

Love, Ivan
