Senate Democrats yesterday said House Republicans killed a long-sought measure that would have tightened the nation's bankruptcy laws when they stripped from the measure abortion-related language vehemently opposed by conservatives.

The altered measure passed in the House late Thursday night. "House Republicans killed bankruptcy for this year," said Sen. Majority Leader Tom Daschle, South Dakota Democrat. "We had a compromise. "

Next congress...let repubs bring up everything that the DEMS said they'd filibuster, then actually let them do it.

The people would get sick of it in a hot hurry and it would put the RATS deeper in the trick bag.

I'm not defending the clause......

..but it was something Schumer had included in there that had to do with abortion rights protestors not being able to discharge fines through bankruptcy. That's all the detail I know.

I have got to give credit to Schumer. He knows how to play games and divide people. The last time laws with this kind of language were signed and used, they were only used for selective prosecutions against abortion demonstrators, and not nesessarily violent ones or ones who actually interferred. The law was basically bastardized and used by the dems for their own agenda. It sounds innocent, but based on past experience, that kind of language is only used for pro-lifers. Conservatives were smart to remember "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me". Personally, I'd rather the senate just wait untill we have the majority, then pass it with the upgraded house version. The conservatives will be for it, and all Bush has to do is call in some favors, alot of repubs including Rinos and such owe him big time. A filibuster won't be as effective, to be honest with you, I think based on age, and power of conviction, and weak knees in some of the rats, it would pass.

The questionable language — crafted by New York Democratic Sen. Charles E. Schumer — would prevent people from erasing in bankruptcy fines they receive for intentionally using force, threat of force or physical obstruction to injure, intimidate or interfere with a person trying to obtain or provide "lawful goods or services."
A 1994 law with similar wording has been used to levy stiff penalties against protesters outside abortion clinics, including those who simply stand or pray, Republicans said.

Pro-life bump.
