The majority 10 democrats on the Senate Judiciary committee on Thursday engaged in a voting maneuver so extraordinary that some of the senators themselves were unsure what happened.
First, they allowed one of President Bush's conservative judicial nominees to be approved by a voice vote.
Then, one by one, all the Democrats present asked that they be recorded as having voted against the nominee, District Court Judge Dennis Shedd.
In effect the Democrats arranged it so they are now recorded as voting against Shedd after failing to make any effort to block his confirmation. Many Senate veteran staff aides and lobbyists said they could not recall a similar event in Washington.
The committee sent the U.S. Appeals court Nominations of Shedd and University of Utah professor Michael McConnell to the full Senate after having delayed the two men before the midterm elections.

The Democrats are a bunch of sissies with skinned knees.
Does anyone know what happened to the federal judge nominee from S. Carolina that Lehay promised Strom Thurman would be put up for a vote about a month ago only to have Lehay remove the nominee from the list at the last minute (sorry I don't have the nominee's name)?

Do the democrats have ANY platform - ANYTHING they give a da*m about except abortion?
These same democrat senators previously put a special clause in the new Banking Law that forbids somebody who was arrested for protesting outside an abortion clinic from going bankrupt to avoid fines.......
So much for free speech.
For equal justice.
For protection of life....

Is there a link?See #40--and this is all leading to a hell of a scum-fight among the Dems.

When it came time to vote, Mr. Leahy took a voice vote and declared that the Republicans who all shouted "aye" had bested the Democrats' "No." Then, Democrats asked to be recorded as having voted no
That's it blame it on those loud mouthed GOPers

Please, do not refer to the President's nominees as "right wing." It is, however, appropriate to refer to the democrat senators on this committee as ultra-liberal, left wing extremist, scum sucking, commie obstructionists.
Folks like the NAACP hate this nominee and haold the dems responsible for preventing his nomination. Yet, they don't want to give the good guys ammunition for the run off in LA. What is so silly about these commies, is that they could have done something like this 2 months ago and, by doing so, not have energized a portion of the public who were infuriated by their actions. How many southern votes went to good guys or were not cast for the ultra-left wingers because Leahy lied to Strom about this very judge?
Remember, no matter what they do or how is looks on the surface, it is devious, underhanded, propably criminal, and certainly, anti-American. They can't be trusted about anything else!

I never thought I'd see grown ups in the senate acting so childish. And to think that these people were voted into office. It make me think that having a senate is a useless exercise, and a waste of money.

thanks..I searched on their site and found it was in the "stacks" a paysite apparently.. I found a NYT story on another thread.
I'm sending it to a couple liberal friends, just wanted to make sure there was an "independant" source. Of course the NYT is a liberal's bible so thats perfect.

Maybe they are recording it that way to say later that the republicans ignored the vote of the commitee so they could ram their candidates through regardless of "the will of the people". It would be just like them to accuse the republicans of trying to subvert the duties of the senate and installing judges that did not get approved by the commitee.

Let's face it folks. The Democratic Party has become "un-American". Rush Limbaugh, today, did a job on Daschle - the only thing Rush didn't call Daschle is what I truly believe he is and that is a "traitor" to America. Rush sounded enraged as well he should be. I, too, am enraged -a party of un-Americans - the Democratic Party - and on November 5 the American people realized it and so voted. I can't remember when I last heard a Democrat, when ending a speech, say, as President Bush does, "God Bless America".

Sen. Hatch alone outshouts 10 democrats on the Senate Judiciary committee in a voice vote! LOL!
They will tee off a lot of demonRats for playing games with their votes! Is this legal under House rules?

Here's the headline on this from a Dem site: Get THIS! Democrats Let Right-Wing Judge Move Forward, THEN Ask to Be Recorded as Voting NO. What Kind of Cowardly, Despicable, Disgusting Garbage is That? Holy Cripe! Where's The Spine!? 11/15
Well it looks to me like they are really pissing their fellow democrats off. They are finally seeing them for what they are hypocrites and out to save their own skin. We on the other hand are not surprised by this action. They basically are saying, OK my voice vote, which really counts, is YES, but put me on the record as saying NO. They are slime balls and if they are getting their own tiffed at them, well we should do the polite thing and let them HANG THEMSELVES ON THEIR OWN.

I have a dream...
Next election for each Senator, their opponent asks which of these votes was their actual vote?
Their reply, apeing their hero, is that it depends upon the meaning of the past tense of 'is'!

It looks to me based on the last few days that they've decided to adopt the Clinton "triangulation" strategy. They're going to try to be on both sides of the issues, particularly the ones where they are vulnerable because their actual position is unpopular.Luckily they're so inept and transparent at it that it's going to end up being their "strangulation" strategy.
