Just now able to get on. So glad you got to meet with PL last night, but sorry she missed the vigil.

Some good news. I just got off the phone with a very nice man (will just give his initials for now, BW) who is the director of the national clearing house for missing adults, Center for Missing Adults (they just happen to be here in PHX).

He gave me the background on the Amber Alert system, how it came to be and who set it up. It is all voluntary. I came to realize even before talking to him that we don't need a new system, we just need to push for age restrictions to be removed from Amber Alerts.

Clear Channel Broadcasting out of Texas started Amber Alerts.
Since broadcasters and media give up time and effort to do these alerts they would also be people we'd need to talk with. There is alot of work to be done to set it up to include adults. They aren't here yet. But after what I've seen on this thread for the last 2 weeks I'll bet it can be done.

I told him about Alice's case. I also told him about PL and TB2K and FR and he looked up both sites while we were on the phone. He is interested in reading this thread and reading some of our thoughts (he even gave me some computer help, bless his heart!).

Center for Missing Adults was just given a 1/2 million $ to set up their database. He said something about receiving something from the Justice Dept. (the money, can't remember) to get this off the ground. BW used to work with the PHX PD in ther missing person dept. and helped to write our AZ Amber Alert system with the help of JD Hayworth and others.

He also said since Alzheimers patients go missing alot it would be good to get in touch with their organization for help.

Center for Missing Adults has a website that is still being constructed. You can visit it at missingadults.org .

BW asked me to keep in touch if I (we) had any good ideas or had questions.

Bless you all. Will continue to be in prayer for PL and the rest of Alice's family. And will be praying for all of you here. You are all just awesome.

If you read this, Mr. W., I hope I got this info correct. I'm not a great note taker! And thank you for all your help. :)

I wasn't quite correct on this point. They have a new website but it is under construction. It's already there. I may have left the impression the website wasn't up yet. Sorry.

This is GREAT news Valleygal! He cannot help but be moved by the outpouring of compassionate, sincere offers of help that have been offered here. Not to mention the intellegence of the posters :o).

Heh-heh, might be getting into some information overload with this one.... Naahh! Never can have too many concerned people "brainstorming" a problem!

Since I am kinda new to this site, let me ask what might seem to be a silly question...... couldn't we start a "Amber Alert" or "Missing Persons Alert" here on FreeRepublic? Somewhere, where only news & descriptions are placed? No, chatting on it.

Of course, it doesn't replace the original Amber Alerts.

Just a thought.
