Missing Adult, HELP NEEDED (crime in progress?) [SC]
Missing Adult family member -- thread on TimeBomb2000 Forum ^ | 11/15/02 | Prairie Lady

Posted on 11/15/2002 12:02:43 PM PST by Cascadians

This is an urgent plea for help from Prairie Lady; these are her posts: [copied]

I JUST got off the phone with my neice. It seems my sister (her mother) is missing since yesterday between 3pm and 4:40pm yesterday from the SouthCarolina area.

She headed north as far as we can track, but then nothing. This is TOTALLY uncharacteristic of her.

We need to know if she is on her own willingly making decisions, or if she has been abducted and is in need of help. Is there anybody from that area that can help?
----------------------

ok, she spoke to hubbie from home via phone about 3 pm yesterday afternoon. She left home at that time saying she was headed for her local walmart near Aynor South Carolina..I don't know the exact town...maybe conroe or something? She never made it to walmart. Survaliance tapes show she never went in there. She withdrew some money from the bank locally. She put gas in her car at the north carolina / south carolina state line (cherry creek). She withdrew a BUNCH of money in Raliegh Durham North Carolina. She spoke to her daughter at 4:30 saying she was going christmas shopping and that she would be late. But she never made it home.

If she had any inclinations to leave home, she never indicated it, and she would NOT be heading NORTH!!

She is 5'7 inches tall, LONG legs, 150 lbs, has very short medium brown hair. lots of freckels, hazel eyes. Driving a Dark Blue BMW 4 door with a mini antennea on the driver's side on the post between the door and the windshield, licence plate # 845HLG
----------------------
Go ahead and post it at freeps..thanks
----------------------

My brother in law is former military police. He made a call to the police and is tracking bank usage which is showing itself to be very abnormal such as numerous attempts to use the various cards but rejects due to wrong pin numbers. He's requested survalance tapes from the banks as well. She was supposed to go to walmart, but walmart survaliance tapes show she never made it there. So, hes compiling stuff to show that something IS very wrong.

Also, she talked to her daughter AFTER one of the cash drafts and said someting weird to her daughter...like I love you...and she NEVER says that to THAT daughter.

Anyway, I didn't want to put all this on the boards...

This is too weird.

The troopers tried to stop the car with road spikes but it kept going and officers lost sight of it.

OH geessh! I hope they are more careful there than they are here about vechicle chases. Here's hoping Alice is NOT going to be along for one of those rides.

On Sunday, a man eluded an officer after reports of an attempted carjacking and ran toward the Ohio River, Ratliff said. Police contained the area and during the night Basham ended up in the river. He surrendered after about an hour and was treated for hypothermia at a local hospital, Ratliff said.

I can't tell you how happy I was to hear this... He was COLD!

"I'm not sure whether they tried to actually kill him or not..."

Look at the results; trust your logic.

"...but I do know that he was trying to block them from taking his stuff with his van...and then chased them down the road in his vehicle...People will do things they might not normally do when cornered...These guys are on the run...and they DON'T want to be caught..."

I wonder about that.
Something's telling me the two of 'em have done some serious soul searching at this point.
If I'm correct, this will resolve itself, soon.

"So the 'fight or flight' kicks in..."

I'd agree; however, one would think there'd have to be a chance -- no matter how remote -- the "fight" part would result in something meaningful.
That's precisely the part they're asking each other right about now.

"I still don't think they harmed Alice...I really don't..."

Nor do I.

...& I'm hoping & praying we're correct.

Looks like from the Fox news report one split from the other to get another car that was not quite as HOT. The reasonable explaination for only one trying to carjack (and possible reason for failure) when they usually do this as a tem is... the other is with Alice.

You beat me to the article :)

Well, technically, it was a tie.

I was impressed that Foxnews.com had it updated on their website so quickly.

Good point!!

Maybe Chadrick thought to cut his own losses, and get out of there. If this is the case, maybe Branden will cut *his* losses, and help the police in finding Alice and Fulks. Sort of a, "you didn't help me, I'm not going to help you, buddy."

I pray these are excellent interrogators!

How can they lose sight of it on Rt. 23? Not a heavily populated area and a straight road.

Not so sure that's true... One was chased in Ohio last night and the other was caught in KY... So I think they may have split BEFORE this... Also, if Alice were still with them, she'd be with the blonde guy that was chased in Ohio... but there was no mention of another person... I really, really doubt they've kept her in the trunk all this time... there's no reason/usefullness for that... I say they did what they did the first time and put her with the trees somewhere...

The frustrating part is that the first guy, though he was able to get away, was placed where he COULD'VE been found... So I'm hoping Alice is in a similar location...

Maybe it's one of those things where the officers aren't allowed to go over the speed limit and pursue? :(

So, did Fulks drop Basham off in Kentucky and then head on to Ohio?

If so, I think they ditched Alice before then. Still a possibility that she is in the woods close to Conway.

Prayer bump!

This story is from the Ashland Independent

Man jailed after chase, shootout with officer

Suspect nabbed after dip in river

By Kenneth Hart
Of The Daily Independent

ASHLAND — A man was arrested on several felony charges following a bizarre drama Sunday night that included a carjacking attempt, an exchange of gunfire with a police officer and an apparent attempt to swim the Ohio River in near–freezing temperatures.

The suspect was identified as Joshua Leon Ritman, 24. He was lodged in the Boyd County Detention Center, charged with the attempted murder of the officer, along with first-degree robbery and fleeing or evading police in the first degree.

Ritman apparently tried to escape a police dragnet by swimming the river. He was treated for hypothermia before being jailed, Ashland Police Department Acting Patrol Capt. Todd Kelley said.

A deputy jailer said this morning that Ritman had no address and was listed as homeless.

Kelley said Ritman had no identification and that police weren't sure whether he had any outstanding warrants because they had been unable to confirm whether the suspect had given them his actual name.

The events began to unfold about 7:20 p.m. in the Ashland Town Center parking lot when Ritman allegedly attempted to break into an occupied vehicle.

The victims of the intended carjacking were a 39–year–old Raceland woman and her 15–year–old daughter, police said.

The woman, who spoke this morning on the condition that her and her daughter's names not be used, said this morning that Ritman approached them as they were getting into their car.

"He started asking for directions. I told him I couldn't help him," she said.

At that point, the woman said she noticed that Ritman had a gun under his coat. He pointed the weapon at her daughter and tried to climb into the car, she said.

The woman said her daughter had been talking on a cell phone, and Ritman apparently thought she had aleady called the police. He fled the scene.

Ritman was obviously nervous and seemed agitated, "like he was on something," the woman said.

The woman said she used her daughter's phone to call 911.

An APD officer, Matt Davis, responded to the call, but Ritman had already fled. Davis pulled out of the mall parking lot and turned onto Mall Road, across Winchester Avenue from Town Center.

There, Davis spotted a man on foot who matched the description of the carjacking suspect, Kelley said.

Davis pulled his cruiser up next to the man and told him to stop, but he kept walking, Kelley said. After being ordered to stop a second time, the suspect took off running.

Davis got out of his cruiser and gave chase, pursuing the suspect across the Fazoli's, Stewart's Hot Dogs and Movies 10 parking lots, Kelley said. As the suspect was running across the OfficeMax lot, he turned and shot at Davis, he said. Davis returned fire.

The suspect and Davis each shot twice, Kelley said. One of the rounds from the suspect's gun struck a Ford Ranger pickup parked in the Movies 10 lot.

The suspect ran across the railroad tracks onto AK Steel property, then over the river bank, Kelley said. At that point, the APD called in reinforcements from the Boyd County Sheriff's Department, Boyd County Police Department and Catlettsburg Police Department. Off–duty APD officers also came to the scene to help search for the suspect.

A tracking dog and handler from the Cabell County Sheriff's Department were also summoned.

Officers set up a perimeter around the area where the suspect was seen going over the river bank, Kelley said. After about an hour, the suspect emerged and began walking toward the line of officers, he said. The man was soaking wet, and obviously freezing, he said.

Kelley said he could not say for certain whether Ritman had tried to swim the river.

"All I know is that he was wet," he said.

A Kentucky National Guard helicopter was on its way to help look for Ritman when he was apprehended, Assistant Police Chief Rob Ratliff said.

He said there would be separate investigations – criminal and administrative — of the discharge of Davis' duty weapon. Both are standard procedure any time an officer fires his gun, he said.

Kelley said he did not believe Davis would be placed on leave while the investigations are taking place.

Davis fell and suffered a pulled muscle while chasing the suspect, Kelley said. He was released after treatment at KDMC, he said. .

If Alice is with the perp in Ohio, that may mean she's warm, fed. Better than being tied to a tree in the cold! Let's hope she escaped in the woods and has found a cabin she's been recovering in. We'll post your post right now on TimeBomb2000.

We've been working and don't have time to post from work. TankGurrrl, you are our total HERO. Your efforts have been truly inspiring.
