Man Subdued in School With Gas, Gun Man Subdued After He Allegedly Enters Texas School With Shotgun, Gasoline; No One Injured

SCURRY, Texas Nov. 15 — A shotgun-wielding man threatened a rural East Texas high school Friday morning until students and a teacher wrestled him to the ground, authorities said.

The 20-year-old man, a former student at Scurry-Rosser High School, went into the school office and ordered students into the cafeteria, Principal Larry Sneed said.

The man allegedly began pouring gasoline on the floor. Students then helped subdue him, authorities said.

"He did not say a word, didn't really look at anybody," said Courtney Robertson, a junior at the high school. "Everybody was crying, it was horrible. We thought we were all going to die."

Robertson said the principal and a teacher slowly walked up to the man and grabbed the gun, then wrestled him to the floor.

"I shoved the barrel up toward the air," Sneed said. "I got it around his neck so I could hold him, and a couple of football players and teachers came up and we got the weapon secured. He never said a word."

No injuries or gunfire were reported, but classes were canceled for the rest of the day.

A Kaufmann County sheriff's dispatcher who declined to give her name said the man was in custody. She gave no other details.

Sneed dismissed the school for the day. He said the suspect claimed he had planted bombs in the area and police were sweeping schools looking for evidence of bombs.

The school, about 30 miles southeast of Dallas, has an enrollment of about 220 students.

"This is the result of a major change in society from 9-11"

Maybe in the rest of the US, but not in East Texas. Doing something like that punk did has always been a good way to get your shotgun taken away and shoved up your rectum.

I lived about 50 miles from that school for eight years. The old Roman saying applies to East Texans, too: "No better friend. No worse enemy." If you need help they will bust a gut to help you. If you try to take advantage of them, better have your track shoes on and access to a fast car.

I'm sure that this is true in many parts of the country. I grew up in South East Colorado and folks didn't mind kicking up some dust.

Once, when I was in the third grade, I was driving in town with my step dad. As we drove past the bus station, a "long-hair" bolted out into the street and then kicked our car. My dad quickly made a U turn and confronted the punk. Mr. Hippie promptly pulled a knife. I didn't even have time to be scared--pops disarmed the hippie quicker than I could blink. He then promptly beat Mr. Hippie while lecturing him on manners.

I had a similar experience when a punk drove through a parking lot at 60 mph and nearly hit my son. I chased him down and confronted him. He started popping off at the mouth saying he was going 10 mph. The crowd that had gathered disagreed. Since he wouldn’t shut his mouth, I shut it for him. He needed help just to get back up.

Some situations call for a fight.

Yup. And thank God that there are enough Americans left that know when those situations occur, and are willing to step up to the plate and do what needs doing.

That was one brave man that walked up to him when he didn't know if he'd get blown away with the shotgun.

One... brave... man...

Another reason to homeschool...anyone busts into my "school" with a gun, gasoline, or just idiotic intentions is going to get a large caliber bullet between the eyes. (Actually, five large caliber bullets, all somewhere on his person...)

Death by lead poisoning makes sure these twits can't do this stuff again.

Yep- that's the correct response. Just remember the "Three Rules of Defensive Shooting":

1. Aim for center of mass

2. Empty the gun- reload as necessary

3. Say ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to the police or anyone else but "I was afraid for my life!".

A member of our church is a retired elementary school principle. His school was out in the boonies, at least a 20 minute response for the local sheriff or state police. He kept a M1911A1 in his desk. Did I tell you he is a democrat? His political leanings are sure not normal for rats.

Kind of goes along with my theory that people like this just didn't get whooped enough when they were children. Whooped "right" by a dad and mom that care about setting you straight and not just taking out their angry on someone who can't fight back.

So many people could have been spared a horendous beating later in their lives if the parents would have provided a smaller one earlier on in their lives.

I say we train honorable-discharged miltary who are looking for a little extra dough to be official beating dispensors. Train them to spot the people who need it, and train them to given those people beatings without permanantly injuring them. Take care of the problem of honest citizens having to set someone straight and then get charged for assault when the perp figures out you aren't gonna take his bad mouthing your wife. And we can put a little extra money in the pockets of those people who have served our country.
