If a boss is a smoker, non smokers soon realize that their peers that smoke, know alot more about what is going on than they do. Deals are struck, information gleaned, friendships are made etc.

I was amazed the first time I heard that - now I am just amazed at how many people ACTUALLY do it for the reason you mention.
