You may be right.

However, I do not see how she could pull it off, barring a colossal screw-up by Bush. Her best shot is in 2008, and even then, that is quite iffy.

Now, in 2004, she'll be somewhat of a kingmaker, because she and Bill still have a lot of pull with the Dems. Also, you have to keep in mind that the Senate is NOT exactly the best place from which to launch a Presidential campaign.

I don't think America lurched to the right at all. I see it simply as people finally getting sick of the far left Democrats who simply went too far. America overall is to the left of what used to be the Democratic party. John Kennedy would be called a far right wing nutcase today. Was watching CNN at lunch and there was Judy Woodruff interviewing Pelosi.

paraphrasing:

Woodruff: "Republicans say that your election as Senate Minority Leader will backlash because you are a San Francisco Liberal Democrat."

Pelosi: "I may be a Liberal Democrat but I am a Conservative Catholic."

I just about fell out of my chair and choked on my cola. Isn't she pro-abort? Pro-homosexual?

Naturally, Woodruff didn't question her statement. She just smiled that "Clinton worship" smile and moved on.

Bill Clinton was two things: (1) he was the biggest, oiliest scoundrel ever to be elected to the office of president of the U.S. and (2) he was the shrewdest political operator ever (although Bush2 may eventually overtake him on this point but to a good purpose). Undoubtedly Clinton is shaking his head at the direction the Democrooks are going. He knows it's better to go left obliquely than to go full steam ahead towards socialism.
