A French reporter who questioned the Kremlin's war in Chechnya provoked an angry outburst from Russian President Vladimir Putin, who challenged him to convert to Islam and come to Moscow for circumcision.

During a post-European Union summit news conference, Putin also said Chechen rebels want to kill all non-Muslims and establish an Islamic state in Russia.

Putin sounds like my kind of leader. He has my sympathy in his own war against terror. He reportedly called the Chechen terrorists who took over that theater "those (unprintable obscenity)" -- the media wouldn't repeat it but I assumed it was something like "those f---ers".

"They talk about setting up a worldwide (Islamic state) and the need to kill Americans and their allies," Putin said. "They talk about the need to kill all...non-Muslims, or 'crusaders,' as they put it. If you are a Christian, you are in danger.

"If you decided to abandon your faith and become an atheist, you also are to be liquidated according to their concept. You are in danger if you decide to become a Muslim. It is not going to save you anyway because they believe traditional Islam is hostile to their goals."

In Moscow, the daily Kommersant said the EU-Russia summit "ended in a serious scandal" because of Putin's comments, which Kremlin aides said were made in response to a "provocative question."

He may of been tired, but he expressed his true feelings.

Time grows short for the Moscow criminal Putin. His execution last month of some 120 Russian civilians by the use of outlawed gas constitutes yet another serious human rights violation. Once again he threatens the innocent civilians of Chechnya -- after murdering some 100,000 of them in the last decade.

Now the greatest fighter on the face of this earth -- Shamil Basayev -- prepares to destroy the Russian Federation and take down the ex-KGB thug. Chechen freedom fighters with a spectacular assault Wednesday -- littering the field with scores of Russian murderers. Yet it is only the beginning...

Russian death squads roam the Caucuses with impunity -- raping and sodomising Chechen women and burning helpless villages to the ground. "Civilised" Europe makes no stand against these atrocities because Chechens choose to worship a different God than the hypocritical tree-huggers of London, Berlin, and Paris.

Soon all of Europe to know the score -- up close and personal...

Only the United States of America and Turkey stand with the Chechen people against Russian totalitarianism. Only in Washington, DC and Ankara do conservative hawks look to the future and see an era where Middle Eastern oil is no longer the sword held against the vibrant heart of the West.

And with this vision they see that the Russian Federation must be destroyed so that all mankind can live. Hussein and Putin both murder civilians with poison gas -- both must be brought to justice...

Putin just another Moscow thug in a cheap suit and bad haircut. His bizarre outburst merely signals to the world how close this madman is to reaching the end of his manaical communist tether...

Stalin most lonely waiting in hell for Putin. He won't have to wait much longer...

Dry is good and wind is better...

The forces of freedom on the move. Europe trembles.

Sounds like Putin, Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson drank the same truth syrum.

I think President Bush needs a shot of what they're drinkin'.

Putin is slowly rising to hero status. A politician who's not afraid to tell it like it is.

The US, EU, and the rest of the civilized world should give him free reign (look the other way) to wipe out as many radical Islamic pukes as he wants to in Chechnya or anywhere else. Go Putin!

Put down the pipe, dude. Did you read the latest Osama statement? He takes credit for the hostage crisis and also claims these chechnyan "rebels" as part of Al Queda.

They are now on the list. Soon they will be off it.....

I can certainly understand your anger at the hostage disaster. What a major screw up. However it's questionable as to whether Putin knew the gas would kill anyone. My understanding is that they seriously thought it would just incapacitate the people inside, and some moron at the lower command echelons screwed up & didn't understand the effect the higher gas concentrations would have in a closed building.

As for the "forces of freedom" - HA! A bunch of Islamic radicals are more likely termed the "forces of oppression and death". If Chechnya ever breaks free, you can bet that all non-Muslims in the country will immediately be killed or exiled. Some freedom.

As for "Europe trembles"... I have no doubt. Aside from the UK, the extreme wusses in mainland Europe would tremble and cave in if someone threatened to fart in their general direction.

There oughtta be some award for crappy propaganda like yours. One has to take reality and twist it gently to make the lie at least somewhat plausible. Or is this a joke? Onion parody?

Maybe that's why they're third world. You look at the history of Mohammedanism and you will see that they took over the most advanced civilizations of their times and then culturally froze or regressed. The granduer that was Constantinople is still the "sick man of Europe." Egypt was something, and it still something, but in comparison to the Rome it once could rival is something rather insignificant. What that religion touches, withers.

In Osama's latest taped message (supposed) he cheers on the Chechens.  Doesn't that make them bad?

"Putin says Chechen rebels out to kill all non-Muslims"

Well no kiddin'. This isn't news, unless the news is that Putin said it. No matter what he says, he's a member of the Third Way, spoke at Third Way "summits"...his stating the obvious and getting a media love fest for it is beginning to gag me.
