Manama |By A Correspondent | 12-11-2002 Print friendly format | Email to FriendA former U.S. Senator is to arrive today in Bahrain to lecture on 'behind the scene influence of the Zionist lobby on U.S. politics,' at the invitation of a local religious centre, a spokesman told Gulf News yesterday.
David Duke, who represented Louisiana in the U.S. Senate from 1989 to 1991 and ran unsuccessfully for governor the same year, "is a well-known critic of the Zionist lobby in the U.S. and its threat to the U.S. national security," said Mohammed Zuhair, manager of Discover Islam Centre.
The centre, an educational institute serving mostly the non-Muslim community in Bahrain, is sponsoring Duke's four-day visit.
"During his stay, he will deliver two lectures, 'Global Struggle against Zionism' and "Israeli Involvement in September 11 (attacks)'. Both will be open to the public and followed by a question and answer session," Zuhair said.
Duke is a figure with controversial ideas. He is accused of being a white supremacist and anti-Semite since his days in university in the early 1970s when he founded the White Youth Alliance as an anti-black organisation. He went on to join the racist Ku Klux Klan in 1974.
"But he quit this organisation in 1978; now he is a mainstream politician, a member of the Republican Party," Zuhair insisted.
He said Duke was not being invited because of his perceived anti-Jewish stand but because he has recently authored a book that 'exposes the Zionist agenda for world domination."
A friend of mine from Bossier City said "Duke gives us trailer trash a bad name, we gotta shun him."
It still makes me nauseous.
A little light reading for Davie boy on his nightstand waiting at the Holiday Inn, Bahrain.
He also emailed me a url from David Duke's www site - an article about the Jews and their role in 9/11. The article had more than enough vitriol and conspiracy to last a lifetime.
From their perspective, Duke is a "Christian" that holds the same vehement dislike for the Jews as they do. As a result he is a trophy in their propaganda war. "The enemy of my enemy..."
Front page today from al-Ayam, one of the main papers in Manama, Bahrain. Right now, Davie is just about checking in to his hotel as it is about 8 p.m. local time. Maybe he has been tucked into his white sheets and given an after dinner mint? He could be easily tracked.
Not a word in the paper yet about his talks. But I am sure it will appear tomorrow.
And you can be sure if there is anything seditious by Mr. Duke in there at the time the US is at War, you can bet it will not be ignored by freepers. :-)
Duke served in the Louisiana state legislature, that's all. He did run for the US senate seat and for governor, but lost both even though he got more votes than the sitting republican governor in one race. Even though he was an early advocate of workfare and a big opponent of affirmative action, he has continued the increasingly ironic and disturbing pattern of white racists/racialists joining forces (at least ideologically) with muslim extremists. I think this is a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face, with Americans being the nose, and Jews the face.
He was neither. Duke was a one-term State representative in Louisiana. Despite his notorious baggage, he did not put forward any proposed legislation which was offensive. Of course, if memory serves, virtually everything that he *did* touch was voted down, regardless of the merit of the proposal. Republicans and Democrats alike sent him an immediate and continuous message that he was not welcome as a legislator.
Hey... maybe the source has the name wrong. Perhaps they're thinking of Senator Byrd.
So should we revoke the passports of everyone with whom we disagree?
Why don't I find that appealing? I guess I must just be un-American.
Outside of that, everyone gets to keep the U.S. State Department passport that is entrusted to them.
Thanks, Duke, for asking.
People bring up how "shockingly close" David Duke and Oliver North were to getting elected but when one looks over their Rat challengers, they were running against known crooks. Give a better choice and that may not be the case.
People might start thinking he is relevent. Stop it.
