Legendary New York talk radio host Bob Grant said Monday that the establishment press has signaled its approval of a racist attack on National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice by failing to condemn or even publicize it.
"Since the target is a member of the Bush administration, apparently people in the media say, 'Well, that's all right,'" Grant told NewsMax during his WOR broadcast.
The New York talker was responding to a question about the Neil Rogers Show, a Florida radio broadcast that features a song parody describing Rice as "a black-haired answer-mammy who be smart" - who also "parks the whitey's cars" and "cleans all the White House bathrooms."
Performed in an Amos n' Andy accent to the tune of Nat King Cole's "Mona Lisa," some say the lyrics of the Rogers' Show staple "Condoleezza" are the most vivid display of on-air racism heard anywhere in decades:
"Condoleezza, Condoleezza, what you be doin'? That neo-facist black-haired token schwarze dog.
"Is you there 'cause you a high-toned public Negro? Is you their black-haired answer-mammy who be smart? Does they like how you shine their shoes, Condoleezza? Or the way you wash and park the whitey's cars.
"Georgie junior says he trusts you, Condoleezza. Who said our [unintelligible] off the greedy oil woes. But then he make you clean all the White House bathrooms. The public sink, the toilet and let's scrub the floors."
Far from being a member of radio's lunatic fringe, Rogers broadcasts in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and Ft. Myers over WQAM, and, according to one industry insider consulted by NewsMax, has a "huge" radio audience. The Bush administration critic is listed by Talkers Magazine as number 15 among the greatest radio hosts of all time.
Reacting to the lyrics of "Condoleezza," WOR's Grant told NewsMax, "God forbid if I should do that and use as my target somebody else."
The New York host has more than one reason to be offended by the media cover-up of the racist attack on Rice. Grant himself was let go by WABC in 1996 after pressure was brought by Rev. Jesse Jackson and others on the station's owner, Walt Disney Corp., over a remark he uttered upon learning that a plane carrying Clinton Commerce Secretary Ron Brown had crashed.
"I'm a pessimist at heart," Grant said, after predicting that early reports Brown had survived the crash were probably true. The comment, while completely innocuous compared to Rogers' "Condoleezza" parody, was seized upon by Grant's critics to claim he was racist.
Interestingly, Rogers' station also has ties to Disney, though the media giant has yet to react to "Condoleezza." While WQAM is owned by the Beasley Group, the station is listed among ESPN's radio affiliates on the sports network's Web site. Disney bought ESPN in 1995.
Rogers could not be reached for comment for NewsMax's initial report two weeks ago on his decision to make "Condoleezza" a regular feature of his show.
But he told FoxNews.com, which picked up the story on Friday, that Rice was the Bush administration's "house Negro."
"It's a fact, it's my opinion," he insisted, adding, "Am I entitled to my opinion?" Rogers then complained, "What do I have to do - in Miami, Fla. - answer to some (expletive deleted) in New York on Fox News how I do my show?"
Despite the outrageous radio attack on the U.S. government's highest ranking African-American woman ever, the civil rights establishment has been largely silent - with one exception.
Decrying the media's double standard, Congress of Racial Equality spokesman Niger Innis told Fox News, "If Rogers, instead of being a white liberal, were a white conservative like Rush Limbaugh using the type of language that Rogers was using, he'd be kicked off the air."
Have his stations no responsbility in what they put on the air?
Now, if it were Rush doing this on his show and referring to one of Clintons cabinet members....well, you know.
Bob Grant: Press Approves of Racist Attack on Condoleezza Rice
Ummm.....there are some so called "Conservatives" who think that way, too. Along the same lines as "attacking Irag for oil..."
(*You know who I mean, that Calypso singing guy who dissed Powell)
The Bob Grant of old is back!
Democrats are racist.
