Comptroller Carl McCall lost to Governor George Pataki by 16 percentage points.

Not only did McCall lose by 16 points, even more significant is the fact that his vote total only came to 33% in a heavily Democratic state that had twice before elected him to statewide office. Clintons are electoral poison.
