Regarding this picture, I wonder just what could be so funny at a memorial service that was supposedly eulogizing a man who just died in a tragic plane crash. We are not having a memorial for somebody who died of old age here, this was a genuine tragedy. Compounding the tragedy is the fact that several others also died, including the deceased's wife and daughter. I can see quietly sharing a light moment here and there at a memorial service but this kind of guffawing and joviality is just so inappropriate and so out of place.

It is apparent in this photo that Clinton and Mondale are whooping it up about something. I can imagine the kind of conversation between them that was taking place:

CLINTON: So Walter, looks like you are back in the hunt, my boy! Congratulations on your good fortune!

MONDALE: Yep, it's funny how things work out, ain't it? Those Republicans ain't heard that last of Walter Mondale just yet!

CLINTON: Well don't you worry Walt, we got this thing all sewed up for ya. All you gotta do is smile for the cameras, kiss a few babies and give that Coleman character a big surprise at the debate we gonna set up for ya Monday morning.

MONDALE: Don't you worry old pal, Coleman ain't gonna know what hit him, I'm gonna sock it to him good and that senate seat is gonna be ours after all. Then I'm gonna go to Washington and tax their asses off!

MONDALE AND CLINTON: BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
