Inside the Mind of an Anti-Gunner
Loretta Sanchez, for those of you who don't recognize the name, is a Democratic congresswoman from California. Naturally, she is rabidly anti-gun. Her anti-gun stance earned her a grade of "F" from the Gun Owners of America. Sanchez favors mandatory gun locks. In 1998, she threw her support behind HR 424, which could be used by anti-gun prosecutors to impose a mandatory prison sentence of 15 years for you if you dared to defend yourself with a gun!
So, strangely, Loretta Sanchez was invited to speak at a meeting of the NRA members council of Orange County. The local NRA leadership wanted attendees to "keep an open mind" as they submitted written questions to Sanchez. She sidestepped the difficult questions and professed ignorance of HR 424. One attendee's daughters wrote the question, "You took an oath of office to uphold the Constitution. How do you justify supporting anti-gun legislation?" But the question never made it to Sanchez.
Instead, Sanchez spouted more of the same anti-gun nonsense. She said she doesn't want anyone carrying a concealed weapon outside the home because of "road rage." She said she didn't have a problem with someone buying two or 20 guns at a time – but "50 guns is too many." And, when someone asked if she knew the difference between "assault" and semi-automatic weapons, she replied that she has "seen them fired and that's all [she] needs to know."
Anna Raetz, the national spokeswoman for a group called the Liberty Belles, asked Sanchez, "If women cannot freely purchase firearms, what should single mothers living in the jungles of the inner cities do to protect their families?"
Sanchez's answer: "Get married."
Joe Laria, the co-director of the Liberty Belles, says the room fell silent at that remark. He asked Sanchez about what she felt was the real meaning of the Second Amendment. The moderator said, "That's enough questions," and ended the meeting.
This is the mind of the anti-gunner, my friend. It's kind of empty in there. There's not much in there that would stand up to criticism and rational thought – and that's why the tough questions never got answered. It's the same reason liberals don't do well as talk show hosts. Their positions crumble as soon as they begin a two-way conversation.
And in Loretta Sanchez's strange world, single mothers in crime-ridden inner cities don't need to buy guns for self-defense. They just have to get married, and everything will be all right. Because we all know the predators will instantly steer clear of a married woman. Yeah, right.
Thought and logic are anathema to gun grabbers. Case in point: Loretta Sanchez.
