I'm not kidding. He said it in one of the press conferences while the shootings were still going on. It was on Fox News, but I don't have a link to a transcript. He said "... I have respect for him..." (in the sense of not thinking the sniper's dumb, etc.) Then some journalist asked "Even though he's a killer?" Then he said "I respect him as a person..."
