I believe she used the preferred method of dealing with killers per the Brady Bunch, that is to talk reasonably with the perp. Problem is, it didn't work.

I know this is easier said than done, but if you ever find yourself in this situation, it's better to try to fight off the perpetrator by hitting him upside his nose, poking his eyes, etc. Once you drive somewhere with a carjacker, he will probably kill you, because now it becomes kidnapping, and he has a better chance with you dead.

My neighbor happened to be in a bad area along the Mexican border and was surrounded by a gang of men who apparently wanted his nice truck. Luckily he always carries his gun and pulled it out making it clear he was ready to use it and they took off.
