Anyone know if it is contagious?

Only if you're European. Then, geez, is it ever...

The Bubonic plague claimed millions of lives in Europe and Asia in the Middle Ages. Now sources confirm for Eyewitness News the probably presence of the plague in two patients here in New York. The pair is a married couple from New Mexico who were in the city on vacation.

Doctors tell Eyewitness News that they are "99 percent" sure that the couple is indeed suffering from the Bubonic plague. Still, they are taking no chances, awaiting microbiology test, the couple has been isolated to prevent the further spread of the disease.

Doctors say while the female patient is out of danger, her husband is in extremely critical condition. They say he was admitted with a fever of 105 degrees. High fever is one of the symptoms of the Bubonic plague.

The city and state health department, were joined by the Centers for Disease Control try in their investigation into how the couple contracted the disease. The state health department in Sante Fe, New Mexico, where the couple lives, tested rodents on their property this summer. Apparently many of those rodents tested positive for the Bubonic plague.

Doctors say they believe the couple was infected in their home state of New Mexico, after sleeping in a sleeping bag that was outside. It is believed they contracted the disease from fleas, which got it from rodents before passing it along to humans.

Officials say there are 20 to 30 cases of Bubonic plague worldwide each year. If caught early, the disease is very treatable, but it is often mistaken for a cold. If treatment is delayed, the plague can, of course, be fatal.

This attitude might be why the world takes the piss out of Americans!

Grow up you lot.

This is a potentially deadly (if untreated) disease which is quite virrilent. It will kill ANYONE, and how do you know that it won't be resistant to antibiotics? The world is having trouble with 'Super-bugs' such as MRSA being resistant to drugs; do we know that this is not a super-bug?

Remember the wisedom of Aesop: PRIDE COMES BEFORE A FALL.

[oh and by the way, it's:
Ring a ring of roses, (referring to the ring of buboes)
A pocket full of posies, (refers to the old belief that plague was caused by myasma (bad smells) so posies of flowers/herbs were carried around)
Atishoo, Atishoo, (refers to the sneezing of victims)
We all fall down. (Death) ]

If the US wants support for it's war-mongering, it'd better learn humility, manners, decency and 'bulldog spirit'. And that's all of you, from the President to the street cleaner (whatever nationality he/she might be). We're in this modern 'dark-age' together, and the US cannot do ANYTHING in world affairs without it's allies.

You want respect, give respect.

Enjoy.
