The national sales tax eliminates the need for tax audits!
It doesn't eliminate tax audits, but it sure makes them a lot less painful. Its just "How much did you buy and how much did you sell" question. They'll still have to do audits, but since everything is more transparent they can really pick out the bad apples easily without having to spend a year going through their tax return.

The audits won't be on consumers though -- on business owners -- who shouldn't be in business if they cannot support the country that makes them profitable.

I'd like to know how that works. At the flea market near me there are people selling new merchandise without collecting sales taxes. Presumably that's illegal now but not enforced. Under the NRST, I presume there would have to be on-site enforcement?

I see no need to audit individual tax payers. There will still be a necessity for tax audits on retailers, but it should only need to be on the sales records and that they collected and forwarded the tax. There should be no tax reason for a full audit.
