The announcement of Riley's victory was made at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday night, Don Siegelman was declared the winner of the race.

I wonder how long it will be before we get certification. This is a bit frustrating. Anyone know the status of the area where the tornado hit and people that had already signed the voting list had to take cover.

I just called the Henry County Courthouse (tornado hit Abbeville, AL -county seat) and asked if their vote had been certified yet. "Not yet" was the response. They were pretty hard hit last night. The high school is closed for the rest of the week (this a.m. they were saying indefinitely), the public is not allowed in the downtown area (the square), two were killed, and a dozen or more wounded. My bet is Henry County goes Riley.

We had no electricity so I had my son in Montgomery call in with details. When the race tightened up, he said they were speculating that the race could be decided by Henry County. (The tornado hit Abbeville, in north Henry County.) It is my understanding that our votes have been transmitted.

Riley said that the govenor (Siegelman) knew of the error and tried to make Riley just concede instead of admitting the error.

They have expanded their info. Here's the new text:
(MOBILE, Ala.) November 5 - Bob Riley is Alabama's new governor. He wins the election by 3,085 votes.

The announcement of Riley's victory was made at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday. Prior to that, both Republicans and Democrats were claiming victory in the race.

State Republican Party Chairman Marty Connors says the party contacted Baldwin County election officials to clear up confusion over erroneous election returns. The county originally reported Governor Don Siegelman received more than 19,000 votes. The county later revised that number to less than 13,000.

At a press conference in Bay Minette on Wednesday, Baldwin County Probate Judge Adrian Johns revealed the results of the Baldwin County vote. Siegelman received 12,736 votes and Riley received 31,052 votes.

Funny how can the TV people say 100% votes counted then. Seem wishful thinking on their behalf if Henry County is for Riley....
