California Election results for governor

It appears to me that the GOP is consistently losing the statewide offices because of voting in three counties. Virtually the entire state went for Simon with the exception of Oakland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles counties.

From the standpoint of the number of counties taken, Simon did better than Lungren (though the popular vote was much different).

I am so mad at the election results for Kalifornia I quickly made this and ordered them printed up as bumper stickers.

Since I have to live in this morally bankrupt state of California, in the equally corrupt Los Angeles, I hope to get a lot of exposure offending liberals.

Let the record show that most of Lake Tahoe is in California and moving to the Nevada side is an olde scheme by cheapskates to avoid paying California automobile license fees.

Not me though. I used to have a nice house up there that I actually lived in, and still have a huge ranch in the area. For me, it is more like moving BACK to northern Nevada. For her, it would be a first.

Loose-Cannon Riordan was a train-wreck in the making, turning a 40 point annointment into a stunning 19 point defeat. Oh, the mighty Gray Davis did that to him? LOL! Gray wanted a competitive GOP primary and drain Riordan's campaign chest. Seven months of campaigning against Riordan would have utterly humiliated him yet again had he won the primary.

I think he would have gained much support, even from many Democrats, if he would have taken a strong stand against the illegal invasion problem in this state. Neither of them would touch this issue. There are many Dems who want a stop to illegal immigration, even many hispanics.

I concur completely. Pete Wilson rode Prop 187 to victory in 1994. Simon could have done the same, but Republicans are so skittish about taking conservative stands on the issues these days, aren't they, even when they control both houses of Congress and the Presidency.

Typical conservative, run and flee when things get politically ugly and then bait others to run away too. That's just weak. Why run from the crown jewel of this great country and move to a cold, rainy place like Washington, that is just about as liberal?

It's going to require some significant cuts in state spending. Unpopular cuts. Either that, or it's going to require a significant tax hike on businesses and residents in California.

I'm betting on the tax hikes. What could exemplify the Democrats more than the old "tax 'em until they bleed" strategy.

Remember all those campaign contributions Davis got? Now the payoffs are going to have to start kicking in and it's not going to be cheap.

I do have to admit a certain morbid curiosity as to how bad things will get in the next few years. I think it is going to be ugly...

Just what is it that you think was "hard right" about Simon? That he failed to ride in the Gay Rights Parade next to Dick Riordan? If anything, Simon listened too much to the bad advice of east coast hacks, and gave the knuckle dragging California hard right little incentive to turn out and vote for him. So they didn't.

I'm happy to see San Luis Obispo county voted Davis less than 50% both times.

This means California is probably not in the running to produce a serious Presidential candidate unless Gray Davis runs (which he will).

How do you figure? Does he have that much money to throw away? He barely got a majority. When Pete Wilson tried running, it was after getting reelected by a huge margin and he sank miserably in the primaries. The strongest candidate would seem to me to be Dianne Feinstein and I don't think she has a chance either.

Wrongo. I moved away to complete another graduate degree program at Georgetown U. Then I got a job in the defense establishment in the DC area in the area of national security, about which I care a great deal. The fact that I left California in 1999 after Davis won actually has nothing at all to do with the RAT electoral tidal wave of 1998. I was just saying that because I think California has gone to the dogs, politically speaking. You will be happy to know that my wife and I are trying to figure out a way to move back to So Cal, but the jobs in my area are a lot fewer than around DC.

On Tuesday we voted down by a 2 to 1 margin a Governor hawked 'road fix' boondoggle that would have added 9 cents to a gallon of gas and added more taxes to car sales to pay the almost $10 billion price tag.

We also voted in a flat $30 car tab fee. So, no matter if you own a Rolls or a Pacer it's only 30 bucks a year to register your car. Of course the spenders are gnashing teeth and crying about 'lost revenue!' Well, ain't that just tough feces!

We also have concealed carry permits here.

I didn't leave Calif. strictly because of politics, although that was part of it. I was sick of the overcrowding, expense, and sourpuss attitude of so many of the people there. All I can say is good luck in the next four years. 44.8% voter turnout there? No wonder Bush didn't show up.

You should start an initiative to split the state!

Simon only lost by five points whereas CA GOP standardbearer lost by twenty points to Davis four years ago.

I heard Davis got fewer votes this time than Lungren got in 1998. I haven't verified the numbers.

Whoops, I see you've posted the numbers already:
2002: .... Davis got 3,141,349, which is far less than he or Lungren got in 1998.
1998: Lungren got 3,216,749.
