California Election results for governor
It appears to me that the GOP is consistently losing the statewide offices because of voting in three counties. Virtually the entire state went for Simon with the exception of Oakland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles counties.

1998 results
From the standpoint of the number of counties taken, Simon did better than Lungren (though the popular vote was much different).

Yes, a sad day for Californians, but a great day for Republicans. It just goes to show how completely out-of-step California is to the rest of the country. Now, I just have to convince my husband that Idaho or Colorado are great states to live.

Exactly, the President is so popular that he gave Jeb Bush a ten point bounce in the polls Yeah, that's it. The President's popularity, in a state that went 50/50, jumped Jeb up ten points. Mmmm hmmmm. Had nothing to do with the debate. Nope.

Thank you, and you and others deserve kudos as well. The big question is, how much will Gray Davis raise our taxes by? How long will it take before property values start declining? What's going to happen to Prop. 13? How many people are going to say, screw it, I'm outta here?

Yep I enjoy it here. Thanks for moving.
Why don't you keep on going?

Since Californians will never willingly dump the welfare state, it looks like they'll either accept skyrocketing taxes or else they'll default on their debt.

"Pay" Davis spent $30.00 for every vote he got.
To: Joe Hadenuf
Don't do it, remember, if you take away LA and SF, Davis got killed, like 4 to 1 against. Oh I agree but unfortunately Davis's planned tax increases will pound us all (unless Orange County can somehow excempt itself).
I am just grousing... I can't imagine living anywhere else...

Good thought re Simon going after Chi Fi Frankenstein.
She is concerned and has actually taken a baseball bat and whacked the Club Sierra Watermelons for blocking her attempt to common sense timber thinning used in our forests.
She is a chameleon and will drift to the conservative side in the next few years as the state drifts there and without the Da$$hole as the Senate leader.

the hard right conservatives make up the majority of voting party members This simply isn't true.
Most of the Republican voters in the 2000 election were moderates. It's a myth that the base of the Republican Party in California is rightwingers. That may have been true at one time, but not the last four election cycles.
You are correct though, when you assert that rightwingers are not big donors.

That is even better, smash the ultra liberal loudmouth Bit$h Boxer!

Move while you control your own destiny. California will become a third world, ovecrowded, viloent "Peoples Republic." Davis will further open the borders and enable the illegals to vote. The inviasion will swep aside any resemblance to the US.

I wonder if it is possible to pass a California proposition to FORCE the candidates to have debates? How would that have helped? Simon had one debate with Davis and it killed his momentum.
Remember? Ed "Wildman" Rollins convinced Simon to coyly and obliquely accuse Davis of accepting bribes, then in followups with the media Simon claimed he had evidence to back it up. Photographic EVidence! Turned out to be nonsense.

Colorado?
Most of its cities in make San Francisco look moderate!

Nevada for the winters at least...work six months and take six months off here on the beach...

Did you hear her last night? Blabbering about how the only reason the Republicans took the Senate was because the "people who would have voted for the dems were "intimidated and afraid to go to the polls" blah blah blah.
To: bonesmccoy
I was listening to KGO last night...and they said the plan was Davis to run for President and Barbara Boxer to take the Governorship in his place. Lord, help us!
I feel Davis will seal his own fate with the growing budget deficit...it will be interesting to see what his answers are to the budget hole...and how much taxes go up.
With the GOP control of Congress, CA will receive even less support from Washington (for instance...LA County has been trying to get the Feds to bail out its county hospital system....and the Fed answer is to privatize parts of it, not a handout to reward their mis-management.) I think the Republicans will leave California to bury itself, and build their base back up from the pieces left over.
(and is their anything more sickening than the Sanchez sisters??? gag)

Ahhhh, the silver-lining.
I'll Concur.
"Dual" residency in Nevada is looking better.........
I see the illegal aleins are still voting though, Just look @ Imperial County.

One good earthquake, and we will find ourselves... 1. Owners of beach-front property, and 2. Residents of a solidly-Republican state!Since the rest of the country moved to the RIGHT, I was thinking the same thing.
