I find Ron Kirk rather likable as a person. But, that party label makes him unpalatable to me as a senator. If he'd have run for governor he would have stood a reasonable chance of winning.

Plus, contrast his demeanor with that of that punk Tony Sanchez. I thought Kirk handled himself well during the interview on channel 8.

Maybe there's a party switch in his future? Remember, he refused to endorse Gore in 2000, and he seems to be on good terms with President Bush. W's take on Ron Kirk: "He's a good fella, but he's not gonna help me pass my agenda."

Plenty of RATS deserve the deragatory comments tonight, but IMO Kirk isn't one of them.

Sorry, but I hope that Ron Kirk does not switch to the GOP. I have zero tolerance for corruption, and know too much about his term as mayor of Dallas. The not-so-behind-the-scenes arena scandal is just one of several incidents that call his ethics into question. The greatest threat to the GOP is internal corruption. There are many qualified black Republicans who will make better leaders than Kirk. He's a smooth guy, knows how to close a deal, but unfortunately has impugned his own character.
