EARLY VOTING TRENDS (Various States)

Posted on 11/05/2002 11:35:20 AM PST by 11th_VA

Voter turnout appears to be heavy across Northwest N.C.

By Michael Biesecker and Jim Sparks JOURNAL REPORTERS

A cold and steady rain didn’t keep people from showing up at the polls today in Northwest North Carolina. In Forsyth County, election officials said that turnout was brisk through the morning, with a steady stream of voters in precincts in and around Winston-Salem. Several local candidates stood outside voting sites, trolling for undecided voters.

Every voting booth in the gym at Latham Elementary School was filled this morning. By 11 a.m., 300 people had voted at the school — nearly 20 percent of the 1,800 registered voters in the precinct. One precinct worker called the turnout "phenomenal."

Turn-Out Heavy in Some Missouri Precincts

Voter turnout is reported to be heavy at many polling places in Missouri on this mid-term election day. More than 3,200 people cast an absentee ballot in Greene County, by 5:00 p.m. Monday. Greene County Clerk Richard Struckhoff was predicting a turnout of 45-50%, matching the statewide prediction from Missouri Secretary of State Matt Blunt.

In other Ozarks counties, long lines were reported as some polls and poll workers reported voters taking several minutes to go through the lengthy ballots. In Webster County, turnout was predicted at 50%, with 699 absentee ballots cast. In Christian County, a 40% turnout was expected with 700 absentee ballots cast. And in Taney County, 35% of registered voters were expected at the polls. 646 absentee ballots had been requested in Taney County by 5:00 Monday evening.

NW NC (where I live) is heavily Republican.

It's the eastern part of NC that is a "rat" hole (literally)!

Good news (kinda) in NJ. Just voted in demomecca (Pallone district). All the Laut crap - all the way - signs, door knobs, whole nine yards. BUT!!!! Spoke to a geezer tending the place - not a 100 people voted (as of 3pm.) Their turnout sucks, at least so far - keep my fingers and toes crossed. LOL.

Maryland - Early voter turnout heavy

At Southern High School in Harwood, Sid Johnson said he viewed the governor's race to be the biggest one on the ballot. A registered Democrat, the West River resident cast his ballot for Mr. Ehrlich.

"`I'm tired of everyone giving the state away," said Mr. Johnson, 61. "For the last eight years, we've gone downhill. The Democrats have spent, spent, spent."

When my wife and I voted at 10:00 AM the vote count on the machine was already at 562. We also live in a heavy Republican Area.

I live in the same district. When I voted there was one person in front of me so I had to wait in line for all of 2 seconds. However this was at 7am so its probably to early for all the welfare recepients who wake up at noon.

But----historically, in Missouri they don't vote until after the polls close.

Yeah, I suppose you have a point. How long until the kangaroo court mandates that polls stay open there?
