I'm in GA and I looked at my review carefully -- but even I'm questioning whether I really voted for Republicans now. Why can't we have a paper-trail and why shouldn't I be able to connect to the GA state website and see who I voted for?

Because other people could connect to the GA state website and see who you voted for. Georgia, or someone who works there, could sell your name to people who might be interested in seeing who you voted for so that they could sell you something. Are you really that trusting?

Absolutely necessary. Save the computers for doing spreadsheet analyses after the elction.

I believe that ALL voters should be given a receipt that shows who they voted for.

It's called the "Australian secret ballot". Frankly, I don't want anybody to be able to discover how I voted. It's a problem and allows for fraud to occur. No real solutions have been proposed. But I wouldn't worry. It's like going on a long trip and wondering if you've left the oven on halfway there. It doesn't do you any good to worry and your concerns are probably unfounded.

darn straight - the device should print out a receipt showing you who you voted for. Amazing that they don't do it - I wonder what rational they use to justify not doing it?

I agree on the paper trail, but I've got a major problem with being able to go onto the web to see who I voted for. I don't think the security is in place to handle that as of yet.

In addition, I'm pretty sure that the transmission of the current data is separate from the 'net - which is what keeps it secure.

You shouldn't have a paper trail because you're a republican. That would be cheating. Get a clue, people!

The easy answer is that you don't want Union Thugs waiting outside to verify who you voted for.

Why can't we have a paper-trail...

I'm also in GA and there is a paper trail. Each machine records all the votes on a continuous paper roll.

I saw this on 11 Alive last night as part of a demonstration of how to use the new system.

"why shouldn't I be able to connect to the GA state website and see who I voted for?"

... and if it shows you voted for the "wrong" person what do you do then? ... or does everyone have the new right to change their vote at any time ?
