After waving my Jeb Bush/Katherine Harris signs in one hand and American flag in the other for 2.5 hours along the highway, I went to my polling place still wearing my red "Vets for Jeb" t-shirt and voted. Some folks told me that I would be confronted for "making a political statement", but no one said boo. Florida's new touchscreen systems worked like a champ, and I was done in less than five minutes.
One thing I noticed immediately was that there were NO REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE SIGNS ANYWHERE at my precint. Very likely that the local rats stole them before sunup, but it was almost 10 AM and no resupply! So I drove up to the GOP HQ in Osprey and got a bunch of Jeb, Carlton and Bronson signs to populate my precinct. The folks running the HQ there got all defensive when I asked them what was going on, saying, "Oh, we have people doing that. We were asking for volunteers a week ago!". To which I said, "Well, you didn't ask me". Honestly, their "organization" and "communication" are very poor -- I've only been helping with a multitude of other aspects of the campaign for three months now...
I took some signs and went back to my precinct; I even souveinired two Harris signs on my way there, and there was one Jeb sign at the polls that wasn't there before. Whoopee-do. If that's their idea of taking care of things, we are hurting. In any case, I took care of business in my own way. All done.
Same here! I almost popped my yard sign into the suv to take it up the road. Next run this afternoon, I'll do it.
Why would someone pound some smaller races & school board pubbie signs in but not the most important ones?
Do we have to start guarding the precincts on election eve? Anyway, the place looks fine because I POUNDED SIGNS GETTING UP OUT OF MY DEATH BED for the lunch crowd and for the rush hour voters.
Guess I'll have to call headquarters to find out if they did the sign thing at my precinct. If they actually did, then DEM RATS removed them. Busted again!
Nothing gained at Pubbie HQ, so I drove back to my precinct, and asked the security door man and another poll worker if there was a particular reason there were no conservative signs roadside--especially since there was a visible table in the parking lot with a huge sign, "Democratic Voter Support."
Precinct workers said no signs had been placed by conservatives, security said he had been watching all day. I asked if I could place my lonely Jeb! sign, and was enthusiastically told yes. Let's see if it is still there when I drive by again at 5:30pm.
Whew!
