President Bush hit the road again today to support Republican candidates in Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire. First Lady Laura Bush also traveled the campaign trail by stumping in North Carolina and Georgia. The First Couple will continue traveling this weekend, heading to Florida and Minnesota this weekend. I noticed that you do genealogy. Did you hear that the US 1880, along with the 1881 British and Canadian censuses were put on familysearch.org a couple of weeks ago? My mom does a lot of genealogy also, and is just thrilled that the censuses were added to that site.

The irony is that in Beltway traffic it can take a day to travel from Northern VA to MD, lol. The whole time we lived there I marveled that I could travel through the District and two states in such a short time. They probably all thought I fell off the turnip truck. From Central Texas it takes hours and hours to cross a state line.

LOL I believe it. My husband was working in Alberqurque right after he retired from the Af and I flew up one weekend from San Antonio. Took 3 hours to get to El Paso and about 30 minutes from El Paso to Albquerque (I never could spell the name of that town)

Thanks for the link. Great post!! I loved the part about putting the onus on the stupid third party guys who complain about the GOP compromising with the Dems. Well, if you hadn't voted 3rd party that put the Dem in the office, then the GOP wouldn't have to compromise with said Dem. Brillant! And oh, so true.

I have been extremely blessed that I have found my dad's family back to the late 1600's and my paternal grandfather's family back to about the same time period. One of my cousin's wife was the one who did the research on my mom's side. I left a message on my husband's family name site on GenForum about 2 years ago and I got an email and found all the info on his dad's side back to 1613. They were into horse racing in VA and moved further south. Some of the names I am working on in no particular order are: Criddles, Ganns, Longs. Byars/Byers, Wootens, Gables, Wilkes and there may be some I missed. I am learning a lot and sure do appreciate all the hard work these ancestors did to help settle this country. There are several sites which have censuses. One is Rootsweb and another is usgenweb. I use Ancestry.com and Family Search the LDS site a lot.

I would estimate that there were 6,000+ in the crowd. There was a guy from Ohio there with his wife (presumably also from Ohio). It was in a hangar on the former AFB (Pease). The line going in was orderly and moved along once they opened the door. Campaign staffers were working the lines to get phone and literature volunteers.

The crowd was pretty good. They were patient when we had to wait. There was a high school band from the high school in my town (Rochester) and cheerleaders for a Portsmouth high school. The cheerleaders were quite cute when they had to stretch their routine out because the President was about 10 minutes behind schedule. When the cheerleaders ran out of material and kind of sweetly/shyly scurried away (incidentally casting my cynical beliefs about the state of American youth into doubt). They ran Republican commercials on the big screen they had hung up. They ran a spot that was candid camera moments showing very human/real side of GWB - they ought to get that out to the general public.

There were a number of speakers before GWB arrived - local party officials, some politicians. John Sununu introduced the President. John got cheered quite loudly, second only to GWB of all the pols there - his is the closest race, so the focus was on him, of course.

The President spoke for a while, I think close to 45 minutes. He talked about all the issues - the economy, judges, taxes, senate obstructionism, homeland security, saddam...

People were psyched up. He asked us to go out and bring people to the polls. He appealed to Republicans, Democrats and those 'not interested in politics' to get out and vote and give him what he needs to defend America.

All in all, a good speech (more or less the same one he's giving around the country, but tailored to NH), and a good rally. Lots of energy in the people that were there.
