Archbishop Says It's Immoral to Vote for Pro-Choice Candidates
EWTN News ^ | October 29, 2002 | EWTN

DENVER, Oct 29, 02 (CWNews.com) -- In his second blunt message in as many weeks on the responsibilities of Catholic voters, Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver has insisted the issue of abortion should provide a clear-cut choice.

"I will vote for no candidate Republican, Democrat or third party -- who is actively 'pro-choice,'" the archbishop wrote in his regular weekly column for Denver's archdiocesan newspaper.

Archbishop Chaput dismissed the argument that abortion is only one among many issues to be considered in an election year. He explained: "abortion is separated from other important social issues like affordable housing by a difference in kind, not a difference in degree. Every abortion kills an unborn human life -- every time. No matter what kind of mental gymnastics we use, elective killing has no excuse. We only implicate ourselves by trying to provide one."

In this respect, the archbishop drew a distinction between the abortion issue and other political questions, on which reasonable people might differ. The difference, he said, is that "every abortion is a grave act of violence."

The archbishop repeated his complaint that proponents of legal abortion are seeking to silence Catholics, and others who are opposed to the practice. "The only way to stop this coercion is to send the right men and women to Congress," he said.

Voters cannot remain neutral on the issue, Archbishop Chaput continued. He reasoned: "No violence is ever private. That includes abortion. What we choose to allow, we choose to own."

LOL. My joints do make it feel like I'm a tree occasionally, but other than that, no. Welcome to FR. Our conservative base is surfacing here at FR, and perhaps just in time!

So 65% of Republicans are evil then, I guess? I mean, according to http://www.rym.org, that's the percentage of Republicans that are pro choice. And nearly all Democrats are. That means that according to this bishop, over 4 out of every 5 Americans is evil. Is there something wrong with this picture, perhaps?

Nothing wrong with the picture. Just with your vision.

The bishop has achieved a certain spiritual clarity and courage.

I'm still waiting on the name of that orphanage where you can get babies.

I see you evading ONCE AGAIN my initial query, by putting up smokescreens to this highly significant issue:

Why don't you assert that women who ovulate without getting pregnant are killing innocent lives? Eggs can't talk, but neither can fetuses.

As for my orphanage question, you didn't address my follow-up query.

Kevin Curry says: >>>What a pathetic wretch you are...In an odd way, I pity you.<<<

Nice "holier than thou" proclamation. Do you feel more important now? Good. Now why don't you carry some of that new self-esteem of yours to the nearest orphanage and do for the LIVING for a change? Oh, but the church doesn't smile upon such conduct as much because it's not as lucrative? Woest me. Well then..."[I]n an odd way, I pity you."
Good luck after Campaign Finance Reform kicks in on Wednesday, because even fewer Republicans will claim those of your persuasion. Wasn't it bad enough when politicians pretended to care and even put your {ahem...NONimplemented] policy on the national platform in exchange for your dollars and donated time, but never followed through on your narrow-minded wishes? Do you feel almost as used as the women who are stigmatized by your preachings so that you and your fellow church-buddies can fundraise (and feel less insignificant) in the process?

Good luck this Wednesday. You may as well find people other than unwillingly pregnant women to bully around. Oh, unless you want to be one of those fanatics who blows up abortion clinics to save the unborn. Oh the hypocrisy.

>>>Where is your "safety net" for the women who suffer endlessly in the aftermath of aborting their children? I have personally witnessed the emotional and physical pain that women go through after the abortions. Believe me, it is no quick solution. <<<

Like it does much good to stigmatize and harass them like so many fundraising "right-to-lifers" do?

<<<

Amen brother. Now why don't you try and make it illegal, or at least "evil" for supposed right to lifers to fundraise and fill orphanages while hypocritically ignoring the at least 10% of kids who are put up for adoption that don't even get permanently placed in foster homes, let alone with families? That's an HHS statistic, by the way, as I've documented above.
C'mon, you've praised bravery in your posting. Are we going to see some of it in favor of the living? Oh, I see, you discriminate in favor of the unborn because the demonstrations are so grotesque that more money can be made through the church, huh? Why don't you see if you can get a law passed to prohibit female's ovulating without letting the egg achieve its potential as a born individual? What? Such a law would never pass? Well neither would the law you aspire to have passed, especially now that campaign finance reform kicks in on Wednesday. Why the double standard? Oh, I see, it's easier to feel "holier than thou" (and fundraise) when the egg cell evolves into a fetus, no matter how immature that fetus is. Peculiarly enough, though, when that fetus evolves into a NONadopted person at some orphanage, he or she is on his or her own I guess. Oh there are token contributions because flagrant hypocrisy cuts into the church's fundraising endeavors, but let's face facts...those kids have NOBODY (except us taxpayers).

Respectfully submitted...

An egg is not a human being. A fetus is. You are being purposefully inane.

Still waiting on the names of those orphanages filled with babies.
