Archbishop Says It's Immoral to Vote for Pro-Choice Candidates

DENVER, Oct 29, 02 (CWNews.com) -- In his second blunt message in as many weeks on the responsibilities of Catholic voters, Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver has insisted the issue of abortion should provide a clear-cut choice.

"I will vote for no candidate Republican, Democrat or third party -- who is actively 'pro-choice,'" the archbishop wrote in his regular weekly column for Denver's archdiocesan newspaper.

Archbishop Chaput dismissed the argument that abortion is only one among many issues to be considered in an election year. He explained: "abortion is separated from other important social issues like affordable housing by a difference in kind, not a difference in degree. Every abortion kills an unborn human life -- every time. No matter what kind of mental gymnastics we use, elective killing has no excuse. We only implicate ourselves by trying to provide one."

In this respect, the archbishop drew a distinction between the abortion issue and other political questions, on which reasonable people might differ. The difference, he said, is that "every abortion is a grave act of violence."

The archbishop repeated his complaint that proponents of legal abortion are seeking to silence Catholics, and others who are opposed to the practice. "The only way to stop this coercion is to send the right men and women to Congress," he said.

Voters cannot remain neutral on the issue, Archbishop Chaput continued. He reasoned: "No violence is ever private. That includes abortion. What we choose to allow, we choose to own."

Okay, let's end the hypocrisy. Would you please explain to me how you prove the unborn individual human in the womb is not alive when the heart is beating and science has proven these little ones can learn even before the birthday? I would really like to hear how one seeking to end hypocrisy can defend killing these alive individual human beings. Care to explain?

>>>What, pray tell, should abortion be?<<<

Not an alternative to condoms and birth control pills, but a safety net for when they fail.

I'm a Newt fan, but was out of the country in 1994. Please enlighten me about what Newt said about orphanages.

Nice try, but I've read all the posts you've made. Care to try again,or would you prefer to leave it that it is you who've been playing with hypocrisy?

I believe I have responded adequately above. The burden would be on YOU, now, to try and show why what I've said is hypocritical. This OUGHT to be done without conveniently neglecting to take into consideration the numerous documented points I've raised, as well as the philosophical observations I've shared. Good luck, or find a new (more politically viable) cause, because the GOP doesn't want to lose the popular vote AGAIN like it did in 2000.

Nonhypocritically,

You're a hypocrite tring to spin, dissemble, and play bit and switch. Your methods of 'debate' are clintonesque. If you sanction the killing, admit it, but don't expect your foolishness to pass for cogent debate. Your infantile 'help the livig first' routine is deeply flawed and you know it, that's why you will not try to defend the indefensible. Your covers are now puled; you are playing bait and switch, trying to get a rise out of real consevatives.

BTW,your 'link' to the stats of 65% of republicans are pro-choice' doesn't work. It appears you've made that up out of whole cloth --again, very clintonesque, but it desn't matter now that you've proven your agenda.

I guess you've put about as much thought into your views as you have into the gratuitous spelling errors of that "response" just now...

Good luck after campaign finance reform kicks in on Wednesday. Fringe elements will be marginalized.

I notice how you never did substantively address my meaningful comments above, but I'm unsurprised. The ideologue who warrants no further recognition after campaign finance reform kicks in Wednesday, though, is ...

What a pathetic wretch you are. You are on the side of slaughter, of death, of the murder of innocents. You are condemned to spend your time, mind, and breath defending the shameless and indefensible. The silent screams of the vivisected victims ought to haunt your nights. But you are apparently insensible to them.

You and other pro-aborts are latter day Cains. In an odd way, I pity you.

Evenin' Kevin! I'm using someone else's keyboard/puter, so the missing letters keep piling up! Vote, Kevin, so poor souls like the one above are no able to degenerate this Republic further. BTW, did you see that obsequious link? Guess anything can be posted on the web, regardless of facts or truth. Do you happen to remember Caleb 1411 and his stats showing only 20% of the nation even supports abortion up to the sixth month? Now that was an interesting study to read.

Where is your "safety net" for the women who suffer endlessly in the aftermath of aborting their children? I have personally witnessed the emotional and physical pain that women go through after the abortions. Believe me, it is no quick solution.
