Pop queen Madonna's abuse of religious symbols in her new video looks set to enrage devout Jews. The Material Girl is covered in Hebrew tattoos and wears a sacred Jewish prayer strap in the controversial video for the theme of the latest James Bond film, Die Another Day. At one point, sacred images go up in flames. Jewish spokeswoman Fiona Macaulay warns, "Her use of items intrinsic to Judaism will offend some people in the Jewish community." Madonna is herself a devout follower of the Kabbalah, a mystical branch of Judaism.

Make that "a trendy follower of the latest New Age distortion of real religion, for people who basically don't believe in anything but themselves." I think I read that Lisa Marie Presley is into Kabbalah, too, along with whichever Hollywood nutcases aren't Scientologists anymore.
