Big Brother Big Sister New Homosexual Mentor Policy Leads to Child Molestation in Philly & Ohio

Renew Call for Big Brothers-Sisters to Rescind Policy 'Homosexual Mentors' Bad News for All Concerned -- Especially Kids, Group Says By Allie Martin and Jody Brown October 31, 2002

(AgapePress) - Officials with a prominent pro-family ministry say it's time for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America to reverse a decision made this summer which allows homosexuals to mentor children.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA), an organization that describes itself as "the expert in youth mentoring," announced this summer that it was going to require local agency directors to match homosexuals with children in the BBBSA program, or risk losing affiliation. [See Earlier Article] Numerous pro-family groups expressed outrage at the move, calling attention to the dangerous consequences of pairing men who have same-sex attractions with young boys starving for male attention.

Now comes word from a Philadelphia television station that a volunteer for the mentoring program was arrested this week for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy. That tragedy follows a report earlier this month in which another homosexual Big Brother in Ohio raped a 12-year-old boy.

One of the many groups that voiced outrage at the original BBBSA pronouncement was the Mississippi-based American Family Association, a long-time monitor and critic of the influence of the homosexual movement in the United States. AFA chairman Don Wildmon says Big Brother Big Sisters needs to revert to the way things were.

"I think this is a clear indication as to why [BBBSA] should immediately rescind their July decision to allow homosexuals to mentor young children," Wildmon says. "We warned BBBSA of the consequences of their actions, and now two little boys have paid the price."

Randy Sharp, director of special projects at AFA, echoes that call. "This is simply an indication that the policy is bad for Big Brother Big Sisters, it's bad for America -- and it's especially bad for America's children," he says.

Sharp says corporate America should take a long, hard look at the organization. "Corporate sponsors of Big Brothers Big Sisters should take a very serious look at withholding their donations to this organization until they can, without a doubt, make sure that our children are safe," Sharp says. "And the best way to do that is to have avowed homosexuals prohibited from serving as mentors."

Wildmon says that when the policy was forced on BBBSA's local affiliates, he contacted several corporate sponsors, asking them to withhold funding as a way to send a message that children's best interests should take precedence over a homosexually driven agenda. He notes letters from two of those companies -- Verizon Communications and United Parcel Service (UPS) -- that defended the policy and assured that BBBSA had precautions in place to prevent child abuse.

"We know of two families whose lives have been turned upside down by a program funded by UPS and Verizon," he says. "I suspect there are more and will continue to be more victims as long as BBBSA allows homosexuals to spend time with little boys and girls."

In an action alert to AFA supporters, Wildmon encourages people to once again appeal to Big Brothers Big Sisters to prohibit homosexual men and women from serving as mentors.

I went to your link in #21 and this is what is said. It does say that This incident comes in the wake of a recent policy change that allows homosexual mentors into the program. The chapter president thinks that's a bad idea.

This also seemed extremely significant: Maier said the research clearly shows that male homosexuals are vastly over-represented in child sex offenses.

"We know statistically that about 1 to 3 percent of the population is gay," he said. "However, these individuals are committing up to one-third of the sex crimes against children." September 16, 2002

Big Brother Mentor Charged with Rape By Steve Jordahl, correspondent

A Big Brother mentor in Ohio has been charged with 24 counts of rape, involving a boy in his care. Could this be an indictment of Big Brother's mentoring policy?

An Ohio man has been charged with raping a 12-year-old boy that he was mentoring through the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization. The news should serve as a warning to an organization with some very controversial policies on accepting volunteers.

Scott Wagner has been charged with 24 counts of rape and other sexual crimes. While Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America is not commenting on the incident, a chapter president spoke anonymously with Family News in Focus.

"I'm just really, really hit with the tragedy when something like that happens, when a child is molested and it happens through a Big Brother/Big Sister match," the president said.

A background check by the organization either failed to discover or ignored several allegations against Wagner. Dr. Bill Maier, a psychologist-in-residence with Focus on the Family, said Big Brothers and Sisters needs to wake up.

"Noreen Shanfelter, the national spokesperson for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America, has said to the press, "We're absolutely brilliant in screening out any inappropriate person.' "

This incident comes in the wake of a recent policy change that allows homosexual mentors into the program. The chapter president thinks that's a bad idea.

"We feel that that would be just an at-risk situation for a child, because again, the research does indicate (there) are a higher percentage of homosexuals that do molest children," the person said.

Maier said the research clearly shows that male homosexuals are vastly over-represented in child sex offenses.

"We know statistically that about 1 to 3 percent of the population is gay," he said. "However, these individuals are committing up to one-third of the sex crimes against children."

The incident is the latest of several molestation cases involving Big Brother mentors, including one featured on the television show "America's Most Wanted."

The policy change was in July. More than enough time to bring a newby on board and for that newby to sodomize a kid 24 times. With some, that number could be reached in a week. Especially so with the broad definition of sodomy.

I'd have told them they just lost sponsorship rights, we'll do just fine UNAFFILIATED!

The right answer...but it'd take courage.

The national BBBS would withdraw money and lobby the local United Way to withhold money.

I recall a University study a couple of years back that had the following interesting statistics:

1) The majority of homosexual men had their first encounter at or before age 15.

2) The majority of those who's fist sexual encounter was before the age of 18 had their first experience with a man over the age of 25.

Now, I really don't want to hear any more of those "Homoisexual and pedophile are not the same thing". If you are attracted to someone of the same sex, you are a homosexual. The age of the other party does not change the fact that the attraction si someone of the same sex. Are we not male until we turn 18?

I also do not want to hear that "recruiting" does not and can not happen. When an adult male has sex with a child 15 or under, it is hard to argue that their actions are not likely to impact whether the child views themselves as homosexual.

They can show all of the "2 high school kids exploring their sexuality" movies of the week they want, but that does not reflect the reality for most gay men.

Not all gay people molest children.

Let's see here HOW MANY "STRAIGHT" people molest children? A LOT. Men who molest little girls...women who molest little boys...Men who molest little boys...women who molest little girls. It is NOT a gay issue. Use your heads and think about it.

Heterosexual - 91%

Religious - 91%

Married or Formerly Married - 75%

Caucasion - 73%

Earning A Middle Income or Above - 65%

This sex offender profile comes from the self-reports of a sample of 2,763 sex offenders from 40 states tested on the Abel Questionnaire. Since the sex offenders' ages ranged from 10 to 90, some were too young to be college-educated, married, or earning a middle income.

Statistically, a a homosexual male is more likely to molest a child than a straight male.

Sure there are more straight men who abuse children. There are 32 times more straight people than gay people. Even if only 10% of all molestations are male on male, that means a gay male is over 3 times as likely to be an abuser than a straight male. And 10% seems to be smaller than what we are seeing.

It is also important to note that male molestors of males are signifigantly more likely to have numerous victims than straight molestors. Typically, straight molesters have only a handful of victims, while gay molesters tend to have more than a dozen reported victims once they are caught.

Finally, it is an established fact that rapes of male victims are grossly underreported, because the victims are far less liekly to come forward and be perceived as being gay. I find it hard to believe that this is a practice limited to people over 18. It should be remembered that this is in addition to the common use of threats or intimidation to keep victims quiet, which is the primary reason for girls who are unwilling to come foreward. All of this would seem to indicate that the reported male on male molestations are a much greater problem than we recognize.

As I said in an earlier post. If you are attracted to a person of the same sex, you are a homosexual. Age does not change one's gender. Just because someone identifies themselves as straight does not mean they really are.

According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, approximately 8-10 percent of reported rapes involve male victims. If this figure seems low, keep in mind that rape is one of the most underreported crimes in America. Being a male rape victim may increase the chances of this crime going unreported due to shame, humiliation, or embarrassment on the part of the victim. In fact, males may be less likely to report sexual victimization due to society's refusal or reluctance to accept their victimization and by the victim's belief that he must be strong and "tough it out" in silence.

Although most sexual violence of males is perpetrated by other males, it is not necessarily perpetrated by homosexual males. Pedophiles who molest boys are not expressing a homosexual desire any more than pedophiles that molest girls are practicing heterosexual behaviors. In fact many perpetrators of sexual violence toward boys and men would identify as "straight" and may be married or have a girlfriend.

Then I guess since more males commit these crimes then ALL males should be banned from the program. Stats would indicate that males are more likely to molest. Ban them all. It is wrong to assume that a gay person is attracted to a child. It is a psychological ill that causes people to want to molest children...it is not a "gay" issue or a "straight" issue.

Actually, here is some real statistical analysis:

A survey of convictions for sex offenses involving juveniles in New Jersey (Ravich and Weiss, 1962) revealed that more than 4/5 of these cases involved male contact with girls. In fact, by far the largest fraction of incidents of sexual abuse of children occurs at home: fathers or uncles molesting daughters or nieces. Child molesting, in addition seems to be a male activity; women almost never molest children sexually and this is also true of lesbians. Among men, child molesting is as rare among homosexuals as it is among heterosexuals, maybe more so because a homosexual molester would far more likely to be arrested than his heterosexual counterpart. The Gay Teacher's Caucus of New York has been informed by the Board of Education that while there are many complaints on file about male teachers making sexual advances to female students, there have been no complaints about teachers making advances to students of the same sex.

Now, this clearly shows that 20% of molestations which result in conviction are male on male. Even at the distorted Kinsey figure of 13% male (which is know to be inaccurate, as his sample consisted primarily of long term prisoners, who are obviously more likely to engage in homosexual activity) gay males commit 1.538 times more sexual crimes against minors than their relative societal make-up would expect. Again, I would point out that these crimes are known to be underreported.

If one uses the more conservative (and likely accurate) figure of 3%, homosexual men commit 6.67 times more assaults that result in conviction than their would be expected.

Your argument makes no sense. Big Brothers does not allow men to mentor girls. Therefore, statistics regarding assaults by straight men on girls are not part of the equation and are not indicative of relative risk. Additionally, studies show that the most likely victim of a sexual assault by a straight male is his own daughter, with niece coming in second. That again indicates that the risk associated with straight male abusers is not in any way relevant to a program such as Big Brothers, or a group like the Boy Scouts.

If the victim is male, and the abuser is male, it is a homosexual assault.

This is not ancient Greece where people convinced themselves that gender was not an issue until the person reaches majority.

When "well respected" gay men's groups stop inviting male members of high school gay associations to parties they themselves publicize as "chicken ranch" parties, I'll agree that this is not a gay issue. Until then, it's not going to happen.

What I argue DOES make sense. I said then ALL MALES should be banned from the program. I don't care if more homosexual males commit these crimes or not (and I question those stats)

Those who consider themselves straight...are molesting children/boys more often than those who consider themselves gay.

So how is your policy going to prevent boys from being molested?????? It's not...because most of the ones doing the molesting CONSIDER THEMSELVES STRAIGHT. GOOD LUCK in figuring out who is gay and who is straight. Silly people
