Did you ever go to that beach on Oahu near Kailua, I think, which the Army sometimes opens on weekends to regular folks. Beck's Beach?? They use it to train during the week, and leave it pristine. Looks like Tahiti with the green water against the white sand and trees like pines and the rocks framing the little bay.
And kayaking in the ocean around Oahu was fabulous, with the green sea turtles...
And hiking up into the tropical forest above Pearl...
What a fabulous place!

'fraid not. I spent all but 36 hours at the army base up on the old volcano training in the damn lava fields. during my day and a half of down time I went snorkeling, had an awesome meal, drank too much, took a hot shower, and slept in a nice bed. Oh and we ran around on scooters. That was it. Since then I've taken up scuba diving and I'd love to get back there and do some diving.

I won a trip to Hawaii a few years back. It was a real highlight. I loved going to Pearl Harbor. It was sad but so inspirational. I wish I could go again--especially in January!
