Yes. Access is dead slow here in Texas. It took almost 7 minutes after I clicked "Reply" to get the window I'm typing in.

We are nearing an election, and everybody here is EXTREMELY interested. It is probably just a matter of LOAD.
the answer may be to get a new mac server set up, with OS X Server, and speed things up considerably... I will send another $100 to add power, if I can get a match from at least 100 more freepers!! (Hope we get a lot of response on this one!)

I just had this very conversation with my boss, so don't take it as critical, but:

There are some technical problems soluble by throwing money at them. Those are the good ones. There are others where you simply have to roll up your sleeves and get dirty. You can't estimate cost or when they'll be cured because you don't know what they are yet. When you figure that one out they'll either be solved or they'll turn into the "good ones" - see above.

The beta site seems to be somewhat faster (for me at least)... simply replace "www" with "beta" in the URL.

Series-ly, I suspect that the issue is not bandwidth getting to the web server itself, but in the perl/database area, either processor load, or bandwidth between the web server and the database ... but what do I know ...

Either way, it is awful for us that rely on FR for our news (and that contribute accordingly.) Hopefully the appropriate geek minds are working on it and will get it sorted out soon.

Having the same problem everyone else is. It took me 3 hours to log on today. It was like this days ago so I gave up and didn't even try to log on yesterday. And I'm starting to go through withdrawals. :)
