Republicans decry service as partisan [LOTT WALKED OUT!!]

Though it was billed as a memorial service, many irate viewers and Republican leaders said the gathering for U.S. Sen. Paul Wellstone and five others degenerated at times into a blatant political rally.

"What a complete, total, absolute sham," said Vin Weber, a former U.S. representative from Minnesota. "The DFL clearly intends to exploit Wellstone's memory totally, completely and shamelessly for political gain. To them, Wellstone's death, apparently, was just another campaign event."

I think these dem-birds have "pooped in their nest" and am hoping that although Minnesotans are a different breed they still have a sense of what is right and what is wrong and this was just PLAIN WRONG!

Your advice on another thread bears repeating:

"Can't we just pause until the election is over in memory of the late Senator? "

I doubt most knew what was to occur there, in fact, I suspect most thought it was going to be a loving, respectful memorial service where they could all share their memories and respect.

Some Rats are trying to spin this as being nothing more than one speaker getting a bit out of had. That's B.S. The fact that Dick Cheney was asked not to attend shows that the Dems knew exactly what they were doing last night at that memorial. There were leaks throughout the day yesterday that this was going to be more than a memorial service, and that's obviously what happened. The result was planned and intended.

The good part, to the extent there is one, is that it was a rally for those who already were wholly committed to the Rats. I'm not sure how well it will play to the rest of the electorate. But I'll say this -- I'd have been embarrassed as hell if members of my party had acted that way at a memorial service.

"After watching this debacle tonight, I am convinced Democrats are spawns of Satan."

So we can never forget

>>Ventura is a true independent. If the independent voters who will decide this race had the same reaction as Jesse, Coleman might just pull this out afterall...<<

Is it hate speech to say I hate these particular DEMOCRATS?!?!?!

It was during Kahn's speech that Gov. Jesse Ventura and First Lady Terry Ventura got up shaking their heads and walked out. Lott also walked out during the service.

WOW .. Ventura walked also .. seems he has more class then those so-called caring liberals I watched last night

I still can't get the picture out of my mind of Bill and Hillary dancing in the aisle ...

What a disgrace

There was something going on in that arena....my guess is....everyone with a hint of decency felt the shadow of hell.

They were celebrating Paul Welstones death. There's no other way to explain it.

Learn how to effectively respond politically to these brazen Clintonian tactics so that the sheeple get it. 8 years of Clinton and they never figured out how to respond.

Most of us Republicans know how to behave ourselves in public and would know how to act at a memorial service, unlike Democrats.

After eight years of the Clinton's abomination of the Office of the President and the White House nothing surprises me.

The memorial service for Wellstone is all about the democratic party and not about the repose of the soul of Paul Wellstone! Geno, those running the despotic democrat party do not believe in a soul, thus they can champion abortion as enlightened social policy and exploit a memorial service, turning it into a political rally to further their agenda. It was indeen telling that Harkin gave the final pep talk/hitlerian sermon ... Harkin is so certain the individual has no soul that he champions partial birth abortion for the unborn, just as Paul Wellstone did. Those at the top of the democrat party are very different from average Americans, republican or democrat! The ruling democrats are godless liars and exploiters. Harkin proved it last night. I find it hard to believe Wellstone would have been comfortable with such exploitation.

I agree with you.

After my sister died suddenly and tragically, about ten years ago, our whole family was barely functional. I am no sensitive plant - I'm an old courtroom lawyer and I have investigated horrifying death cases, sat through autopsies, etc. My dad's a combat veteran of WWII, my mom is one of the toughest women alive, my husband is a tower of strength. We were ALL basket cases - could barely talk, barely walk through the funeral. A friend of mine persuaded me to take a Valium (I NEVER take drugs), I still lay awake all night shaking and staring at the ceiling. At her memorial service there were some moments of faint humor as we shared incidents from her life with friends, but the laughter was subdued, and brief, and always followed by a little catch and a sob as we all realized that baby sister would never make us laugh again.

I'm sure different people react in different ways, but I cannot IMAGINE behaving at a family funeral the way Wellstone's family behaved.

Of course, you realize that it all depends on who hears the case. You can be right, and argue well, and still lose if the court that hears the case has an agenda that conflicts with the ruling you desire.

"State House Speaker Steve Sviggum, R-Kenyon, said it was disrespectful that the crowd cheered when former President Bill Clinton, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., appeared on the big monitors and that the crowd jeered when U.S. Senate Minority Leader Trent Lott, R-Miss., and former GOP Sen. Rod Grams of Minnesota were on the screens. "

Why were there BIG SCREENS ANYWAY? VANITY PURPOSES? This is completely sick!!! Has there been an official democrat "response" to the horrible behaviour yet?

Scott Libin, news director at KSTP-TV, Channel 5, said the station was in a difficult position and couldn't respectfully stop coverage in the middle of the service when it went from "eulogy all the way to political pep rally.

"I don't think we could responsibly decide in advance not to cover this and I don't think we could courteously leave it while in the middle of it," he said.

They most certainly could have! All the commentator would need to do, is say, 'It looks like the memorial has concluded and a campaign rally has begun, so we'll break for a commercial'. And then merely go back to regular programming or news or whatever.

Nice to hear from ya. sorry I missed the meeting. Ran into Curmudgeon the other day at the FBCounty GOP picnic. Unbelievable what the democrats did last nite. They were all back slapping and laughing as if they were at a party. Shame on them and perhaps this will show the people of Minnesota as well as the rest of the USA what a bunch of losers they are. Booing at Lott at a funeral memorial??? Thank God Cheney was disinvited--perhaps the demos knew better than to have the VP there.

There are ways to sway people without totally disgracing yourself, its called telling the truth. All the GOP has to do is start telling the truth about the RATS. They do not have to grandstand over some Senators death. Want to bet last night had a negative effect and not the positive effect the RATS were hoping for ?

By now, I think SOME angel (whether in Heaven or Hell) has explained the truth to Wellstone as to whether he died by accident or foul play. I wonder after this partisan back-patter party he thinks his life's devotion to Democratic Party principles was worth it all?

Oh, I'm fairly certain that Satan has had a little sitdown with Wellstone, and informed him how useful it was to have him as a political hack to shill abortion and other issues.

Don't agree with ya at all. I have attended many a memorial and never have I seen guests booed or the participants clapping and laughing. It seems no one was crying over Wellstone's death--none of the senators!! How sad!!
