It will be interesting to see what the committee that gave Bellesiles Bancroft Award based on his fraudulent book will do or has to say.

Shall we hold our collective breaths waiting for them to recend the Bancroft? Actually, they may all be embarrassed enough to take it back.

Cheers from Chile

"I believe that if we begin investigating every scholar who challenges received truth, it will not be long before no challenging scholarly books are published," Mr. Bellesiles said...

Wouldn't that be refreshing? We might get HONEST scholarly books instead!

I can dream, can't I?

This book is listed in several public libraries local to me. I wonder what would happen if everyone wrote a letter to their library asking that the book be sent back to Knopf / Random House for a refund?

Big, big bump.

I hope the local libraries put the book on their "discarded books for 10 cents" carts.

I'm thinking of trying to get a (very, very cheap) copy of the book, in which I would mark the lies.

This will serve as an illustration of the levels of deception liberals will go to, in order try to win public support.

Michael Bellesiles' outrageous actions should not be forgotten.

"They may claim to have a million marching, but I don't believe it."

Well, to match number of mammaries to number of marchers, each marcher would REALLY probably have to have eight mammaries. Sounds like a bunch of female canines to me.

"His scholarly integrity is seriously in question," the committee concluded

Why, because he's a lying college professor??

Imagine that, an anti-gunner being less than truthful. The real surprise is that it's being reported AND that the university is doing anything about it.

Won't make any difference. His book will continue to be cited, in the future, by gun control advocates and the media as if it were true.

I'm sure all of the Million Mammary Marchers are wailing about "What does it matter, if he was passionate about it?!"

Exactly. The entire liberal establishment made that exact defense on behalf of Marxist scrivener and confabulist Rigoberta Menchu when it was shown that she had fabricated the greater part of her autobiography--the capstone of a pile of Marxist crap that won her the Nobel Prize for literature in 1992.

Truth is purely a utilitarian virtue to liberals. If it helps advance the cause, great. If it doesn't (and it almost always doesn't), lie.

I'm thinking that not only is this guy going to have a tough time finding another teaching job,but he ain't gonna have much luck finding a publisher for his new book. He may even face legal problems from the publication of his last one because of the publisher having to withdraw some from the market. I predict a bright future in telephone sales.

And yet Emory turns up the heat on this OTHER tenured professor. What's with the double standard?

No real double standard. What happened here was professors from OTHER colleges were the ones questioning his data, and they got national publicity from it. There was no way Emory could sweep this under the rug,so they bailed on him. Note that even now they didn't take the public position that he was fired, even though he was.
