A satellite cell phone in one hand and a global-positioning satellite unit in the other, Glenn Spencer of the American Border Patrol poses at the group's headquarters in Sierra Vista. In the background is an antenna that connects headquarters to the Internet.

This isn't about winning over your enemies - it's about appealing to the center that determines the outcome of any political movement. When someone uses a derogatory, it just gives your enemies ammo to shoot back at you. So you should be concerned about what is said by your side. How many times have libs bashed JimRob and marginalized him because of stray comments on FR?
Politics IS nuts. Always has been, always will be. The question is, are you going to win at politics, or are you just willing to complain and be right in your own mind? Go ahead, say what you want, associate with the likes of Willis. Give the libs that hammer, and then complain about how much it hurts when they hit you with it. But if you really want to drive change, you gotta learn how politics works. You might not like that reality, but that doesn't change the reality.
Huh? You can't have a public forum without this type of thing. It's impossible! Especially a political forum! LOL!
Better get out of dealing with the public if that is a big concern.
No, I beleive that this immigration crises is a major thorn in the side of the Republican party, and they just cannot deal with it without crossing the politically correct, line in the sand. And this is extremely dangerous to the future of this country.
LOL! The socialist and enemies of America are going to use anything you say against you anyway, they spin everything.
So tell me, you think by Jim banning or censoring the American Patrol articles will help us as far as the Libs are concerned? LOL!You think maybe they will come over to our side? Hehehe...
Look, let me tell you something, the libs as you say, already think this site is a hotbed of extreme right wingers. LOL!
Come on bro!
Let's assume you are correct. Does it therefore make ANY sense that Glenn Spencer would go and associate with the likes of Willis, thereby making it even more politically difficult for ANYONE in the GOP to embrace his website and his movement? Think, man, think!
Once again, you need to be getting after Spencer, not JimRob. There are plenty of threads on FR about the problems from illegal immigration. That is not the problem - the problem is SQUARELY with Glenn Spencer, and you need to work to clean up your own movement, instead of demanding that JimRob damage FR by allowing linkage to a site with associations to Willis and Spotlight.
You and dirtboy are making some pretty broad accusations based upon some vague association with someone named Willis Carto.
If you have issues, back them up with facts. What, exactly, is this purported relationship between Spencer and Carto? Is Carto engaging in racism and has his association with Spencer affected in any tangible way the content of the American Patrol website? Can you document these things or is it just innuendo?
Also, you and dirtboy make the accusation that Spencer has racists on his "radio show". I see no link to any Glenn Spencer radio show. I've never heard of it. I see that he appears on various radio shows around the country. I can't see a radio show that he hosts. Who has he had on his "radio show"? What was the context of their appearance on the "radio show"? I've seen some pretty radical people on O'Reilly, but I wouldn't shut him off just because I heard he had them on. Without knowing the context I can't make a fair conclusion about what occurred on the show and how the radical guest was handled.
You know, I can't imagine our Founding Fathers hanging around worrying about how radical this or that person and their pamphlets and statements were. Or how it would make them look. Or whether they should "associate" their movement with people who might do things like illegally tresspass on a ship, dress in derogatory characature of "native americans", and toss someone else's tea into a harbor.
I really don't think this debate is worth any more bandwidth. This is not about converting libs. This is about attracting enough centrist voters to get a majority for your cause. If you can't understand that, then it's pretty clear why you don't think Spencer associating with the likes of Willis is a big deal, and both you and he are doomed to political impotence.
Have a good day, and have the last word if you so desire...
LOL!
Sure - come into the thread, sling mud against Spencer about some vague association with some guy named Willis, and then run off without supporting or documenting your accusations.
If you're going to convince us that political correctness is a good thing, you're going to have to do alot better than that.
This sounds rational and fair to me."And, even so,
the moderators can pull
those specific articles
and not just simply ban in whole
content from one of the best
immigration reform activist sites
on the Internet."That pretty much sums it up......
But once the revolution was over, they had to become politicians. So as long as you seek to change this problem through the political process, you need to realize what the political issues are, and how to appeal to the center to win. I'll do some more research on the matter tonight, to verify for myself a linkage between Carto and Spencer, and get back to this debate tomorrow.
How does one "see" a radio show? :o)
In all seriousness, yes, Glenn at least HAD a radio show at one time. He may have gotten booted off of all stations (he got booted off my local station) after he had a Holocaust denier as a guest (not a listener calling in, he had the guy as a featured guest) who spoke about how the current immigration policy was a Jewish conspiracy.
Close; but not quite on the mark. But I think there's little doubt that Free Republic will be dismissed as a place for serious considerations of serious matters for just such reasons, particularly if the policy now is to cover up governmental wrongdoings, abuses and corruption when Republicans are involved or implicated. JimRob swore, in court and while under oath, that FR was more, better than that:

Jezzz, big deal. Do you always judge a public figure by the someone that may be on their show as a guest or a caller?
For crying out loud, even Rush has some idiot people that are regular callers that claim some flying saucer is waiting to take all the black people to some freaking mothership, and another guy that wrote a cookbook using road kill etc etc etc.....Was Spencer only suppose to have people on that marched in lock step with his every thought?
Besides, what in the hell does the Halocaust have to do with this immigration crisis? Do you think American Patrol or Spencer has plans on gassing all the illegals?
That's my point. Free Republic is a public forum and by being such is subject to having the public post some pretty weird/radical/politically incorrect stuff. Just by allowing a member of the public to post something that may have originated from another website that may or may not have a vague association with a person of questionable integrity does not mean that the public forum is "associating" in any way with the person of questionable integrity. Allowing non-racist posts which may originate from American Patrol does not mean that Jim Robinson has anything to do with American Patrol, its leader or board of directors, people that its leader has had on his "radio show" years ago, or people who have a vague association with its leader.
