WASHINGTON -- The arrest of two suspects charged with murder in the Washington, D.C.-area's deadly sniper shootings again exposed weaknesses in how the nation deals with illegal immigrants and enforces restraining orders designed to keep guns from people with records of violence.

How would tougher screening of gun-buyers stop a man intent on serial murder? If he's gonna kill a bunch of innocents, illegal purchase or theft of a firearm should not be a problem for him. These leftists are complete idiots! They think they can stop murderers by passing more gun laws.

As to where to keep illegal immigrants prior to a hearing - how about the country of their origin? If aliens are found in this country illegally, they should be immediately taken to the nearest public conveyance for immediate deportation to their country of origin. If they can later prove they belong in the United States, they can return.

Deportation hearings take a long time??

Change the system!!!

More than 50% of the terrorist dots point to INS as the weakness in our system and that includes the "false document" scenarios. THOSE DOTS shouldn't even be on the page.

The so called Rule of Law and Nation of Laws only applies to those the government chooses to apply them too. That is why this nation is becoming so weak. All branches of government pick and choose and it is coming home to haunt us the average citizen in this country.
Our government is never held accountable and it fails the average citizen and protects the rich and the criminal element.
Our government disseminates what information it wants, when it wants and if you fall between the cracks so be it.This should show all America that the government doesnt have the answers and serves only itself and a select few.
It should say of certain people and by certain people of which the masses are truly left to fend for themselves.

Bush is pushing for and most of Congress is actively working on Bills that would grant Amnesty to all the illegal immigrants. So before long "illegals" will be "Americans". Our government is selling America down the river.

prosecuting "noncriminal" illegal immigrants

Like they didn't prosecute Resendez the Railroad Serial killer even after he killed several Americans and they were looking for him. They also don't do any background checks on illegals to check for crimes committed in their homelands. The system needs overhauling.

But they come right back.

Send them back the second, third, fourth .....times. We hold the line one more hour than they are willing to trespass or we forget borders and forget America and live like those invaded by Ghengis Khan. We either have controlled borders or we do not. No control at the borders equals no country. No country means I don't have to pay taxes or obey any laws because the sovereign authority of the U.S. government ceases to exist.

"noncriminal" illegal immigrants

Noncriminal lawbreakers? Hmmm... Kind of an oxymoron.

On the subject of not being able to purchase a weapon if you have a restraining order against you: I have a real problem with that. These days too many women are advised by their divorce attorneys to file restraining orders against their husbands to make it easier for the wives to gain custody of the kids.

Thousands of innocent men have been denied their Second Amendment rights without due process because of this. And, thugs like John Muhammad have no trouble getting their hands on weapons regardless of any and all gun laws.

They get smarter each time they get arrested by the INS. They figure out the system and then they're not too likely to be caught. There needs to be complete reform of our sloppy immigration laws. The guy coming in to work isn't the only problem either, they need to those who come in pregnant on a visitor visa who plan to get their free maternity care and get a US birth certificate and welfare for their baby which then entitles them to all sorts of things. They need to change the sponsor program and put an end to refugees who can't support themselves. The practice of anchor babies is one of the major problems we have, and of course welfare.

Shoot the repeat offenders.

That's not the answer. You've got pandering politicians promising them amnesty, luring them over. Amnesty of course brings in all the ones who want in on entitlement programs, they won't need to work once they get that amnesty everyone keeps promising them.

Agree wholeheartedly on the misuse of restraining orders denying 2A rights. This needs to be noted wherever folks make a lot of hay about John Muhammed getting his firearm illegally because of the restraining order. If no violence has been proven in a court of law, this is a really questionable charge.

How would we know whether or not we are welcoming non-criminal illegal immigrants? Nobody knows anything about their possible criminal records in their countries of origin because nobody checks them. That is part of the problem. Illegal immigrants are criminal by their very presence and there is no other serious government in the world that knowingly and willingly allows an invasion of illegals such as we are allowing. Our government is the epitome of "dumb and dumber" when it comes to border control.
