All we have to do is take out dictators like Saddam and liberating the Iraqi people and it will embolden opressed peoples around the World including Venezuela to take out their own garbage.

We are not the World's policeman to be called out for every domestic dispute.

We should however put tyrants on notice that we will support freedom wherever people are willing to fight for it.

Franco was the first to smash the commies in boody street to street fighting. If there had been a Franco in Cuba, Castro would be pushing up daisies. If Venezuela had a Franco, Chavez would be fighting it out in some mountain as we type.

I can't blame Franco for letting his security forces letting off some steam. Many of them were devout Catholics who wanted revenge for all the murdered priests and nuns (who were killed after they were brutally gang raped). I think he was wise to use that time to hunt down the last traitor.

As for his isolationism, I don't think he had much of a choice. Argentina was the only country that would trade with him at one point. They sent a ton of cattle to their mother country. Everybody else was being PC.

You are correct about Francito standing up to Hitler. In fact, if Hitler crossed the Pyrenhees Franco planned to fight. Instead, he managed to appease Hitler by giving him the heroic Blue Division which fought all the way to Russia and back. Even when the Bulgarians and Romanians broke and ran at the first sign of trouble on the way back from the eastern front, the Blue Division stood up to Stalin's boys. They weren't pro Nazi-they just loved to kill commies.

Ain't talking about that I mean in the 50's when all the true commies were dead or had fled the security forces still were running around killing people that were baselessly denounced( Pinochet reined in his guys quickly after the threat had past).

I was not aware that Franco did that. Do you have any sources that I may read? I have been to the Valley of the Fallen where casualties from both sides are buried together. I thought it was quite magnanimous of Franco to do that. After what those animals did and after Stalin stole all their gold I would have left them to rot in the street.

We shouldn't just stop with ousting Chavez. I also say liberate Cuba with a D-Day style invasion.

Hey, in for a penny, in for a pound!

Spanish historical information. Franco though definitely better than the alternative( and without him Germany may have won WWII) struck me from the histories as having some genuine facist sentiment while Pinochet seemed like the model libertarian ruler.

OK, how about this --- Hosting Red Chinese intelligence gathering efforts.

Intelligence has inherent value -- it results in men living or dying in war. Thus, any intelligence gathered by the Chinese on the operations of US forces will result in more US lives lost if/when we have to face them toe-to-toe. I'd rather head off the problem.

Of course, I'm not suggesting a D-Day style invasion exactly - that is no longer possible in this day and age anyway. But the Castros should cease to exist, along with the top few dozen that would try and fill their shoes. I don't care how this happens, but making it happen would, IMHO, be a sufficiently positive outcome to justify risking the lives of the various agencies' personnel that would be involved.

What about a woman as leader of the opposition??? This might be very effective.

That could do the trick. Chavez's wife recently divorced him. I don't know her politics but if they're opposite of his, that could make it interesting!

Bump!
