Sniper suspects charged with murder: FBI searches for new material witness

ROCKVILLE, Maryland (CNN) --The two men suspected of killing 10 people and wounding three others in a three-week shooting spree were charged with six counts of murder each late Friday in Montgomery County.

Arrest warrants were issued for John Allen Williams, 41, and John Lee Malvo, 17, charging them each with first-degree murder in the six killings that took place in Montgomery County. (Read the charges against Williams) (Read the charges against Malvo)

Williams reportedly changed his name last year to John Allen Muhammad, but he has also used at least eight aliases, according to sources.

I would be very surprised if the perp could get off on a technicality like that. But if he did, it would serve the MD authorities right. And just make the trial of the two perps in VA and/or AL happen all the quicker.

Determing whether or not he ever used the used the name is sufficient. I asked this a long time ago as we faced multi-named terrorists. People who have a western sounding name (Richard Reid, Charles Bishop, Johnny "Walker" Lindh...) who also have one or two muslim names. They have an easier time travelling without the muslim name.

I asked if it was common or uncommon for muslims to legally change their names or if they just float around with multiple identities (and even multiple spellings of the names).

Some of the men in NYC who went to Tennessee to procure genuine state drivers' licenses but with bogus details already had drivers' licenses (although their claim was that they needed these new licenses for work). I was never able to find out if the licenses they were procuring had the same or different names than they used before.

If someone uses a different name, whether they legally changed the name or not, I consider it an alias and it is justifiable to use it in the media. If CNN thinks that it is politically incorrect to use his muslim name instead of his Western name, tough cookies. They can hyphenate the name (since the PC crowd loves those hyphens (ala Hillary Rodem-Clintoon and xxx-yyy-American)).

Richard Reid had 4 or 5 foreign names but the one that has stuck in the US press is "Richard Reid" (aka the "alleged" shoe bomber).

Well, it's common to use a birth name in trial documents. You look up the court proceedings of some of these rappers and you won't find them booked as Jazzy Jeff Jerkweed or the artist formerly known as Prince. In fact, arrest warrents are valid using any name that the perpetrator uses. Mexicans are often booked under aliases. Sometimes the real name is never even determined. Relax, it's a valid arrest.

Besides, everyone in America is calling the sniper "Muhammed" already. Thus, this new "spin" won't work. Especially after the press finally figures out that Muhammed has real terroristic connections (e.g. his message to police of "caught Like A Duck In a Noose" spells L,A,D,I,N as in Bin Ladin), and he was already reported to the FBI and ATF twice before for terroristic suspicions due to his vast quantities of cash on hand, air travel, attempt to assemble a silencer, as well as the contrast in his cash and air travels with his homeless shelter living conditions.

Muhammed registered his car in New Jersey on 9/11/02, at which time he called in a bomb threat to the building where he registered his car. He told at least two other people that he was going to shoot policemen, traveled to Antigua (the destination of shoe bomber Richard Reid) and lived in Ft Myers, Florida before 9/11/01, geographically near Muhammed Atta.

So of course CNN wants to call him "Williams" instead of Muhammed. Heck, they'd paint him white on camera if they thought they could get away with it. I suppose they'll just have to settle for whitewashing his LEGAL name, instead.

One of the restraining orders they showed on tv was in the name of Sheila (or some such) MUHAMMAD against John MUHAMMAD. That is pretty good evidence it was a legal name change.

Yeah -- I saw that one -- he probably rec'd the same service "medal" that everyone who was "in theater" during that time got -- and as for the 'expert" markmanship that the news keeps talking about -- my hubby earned expert at least a couple times during his time in the Air Force -- he was an admin. specialist/paralegal who went out to the range maybe 2 times to "practice" before his test, he had a steady hand and good eye and he would hit even the farthest targets easily

You are so right. The more I think about it the more I realize that the fact that so many people think this guy is some super marksman is an indication of how this country has gone wrong. Forty or fifty years ago most teenagers in the area where I grew up could make shots more difficult than what this guy was doing. I still hear people saying "he had to have had military training", It is so absurd, I have a brother who has never been near the military and he can make shots far tougher than this guy was doing without even trying.

The name muhammad for a terrorist is not PC in the USA though, it is heroic in the arab world. It's absolutely necessary that islam be percieved as the relegion of peace in the USA, at least until islam become dominant.
