I noted with interest your comment a while back about how police sometimes interviewed teachers, either active or retired, in order to see if they recognized the handwriting of a criminal's note.
And now we find out that the police did indeed go to the high school in Bellingham, WA, to get samples of Malvo's handwriting. Though they did so after the fact, the principle is the same as the one you pointed out. You were right.

The thing that amazes me is the most suspicious car seen leaving the shootings.... slowly with its lights out is hardly mentioned by police.....and this was the one!!
And worst yet it was early in the shooting spree.
There is no doubt police methods will be reformed by this killer. While the public is grateful, the killer was caught, the sloppy police activities make one wonder if the police or the killers were more incompetent.
