Did you catch the part in the article how he was a "man of the people .... a college professor..."
If college professors are common man, where does the line get drawn to identify the elite?

This is what makes me gag in the orgy of liberal hyperbole regarding Wellstone's death. They repeat their mantra that he was for the "little man." Well, he certainly wasn't for the "littlest" man or woman, the preborn citizens of our country. He passionately defended the right of sucking their brains out in partial-birth abortion the minute before they took their first breath. Those who honor life as a gift from God will not miss this little man with bad ideas. And to hear Dominici, Republican senator from NM, sobbing on TV that now the Senate has to carry on Wellstone's legacy, makes me think the founding fathers really screwed up when they suggested a Senate (though in fairness they never intended for it to be elected). We will have a tougher fight now that the libs in politics and the media have their St. Paul.

You're right - being a college professor does not disqualify you as a common man. That argument works better if you are teaching at a community college.
However, if you are at all familiar with the school Paul Wellstone worked at, you will realize that it was an exclusive, expensive private college. And that's a long way from being a plumber, or a truck-driver.
