'The flight from public schools' November edition to feature in-depth look at homeschooling revolution

A devastating look at the current state of public schools in America – and the resulting revolution in homeschooling – is the topic of the upcoming November 2002 edition of WND's acclaimed monthly print magazine, Whistleblower.

Titled "THE FLIGHT FROM PUBLIC SCHOOLS," the issue documents the increasingly bizarre curricula (from "jihad games" to "celebrating the dead"), notorious "zero-tolerance" discipline (suspending children for playing cops-and-robbers on the playground or giving a cough drop to a friend) and increasingly overt sexual indoctrination (homosexual propaganda now taught beginning in kindergarten). It shows how and why the government's education system has become so controversial that former U.S. Secretary of Education William Bennett now publicly exhorts parents on national television to take their children out of the learning institutions over which he once presided – and to homeschool them instead.

The issue guides readers through the fascinating world of homeschooling – showing how home-taught children consistently outperform their public- and private-schooled peers on standardized tests, and are now being actively sought out by Ivy League colleges.

"This issue is crucial to our freedom as individuals and as a nation," said WorldNetDaily's editor and CEO Joseph Farah. "I urge all WND readers to read this issue of Whistleblower – especially if you have school-aged children. I truly believe this special report may change the course of your life and your children's lives."

"In fact," said WND Vice President and Managing Editor David Kupelian – one of four top editorial staffers (including Farah) that homeschool their children – "this issue is an excellent resource for helping parents make the decision, and then the transition, to home school."

The issue includes a powerful essay on the subject by Farah, adapted from his forthcoming book, "Taking America Back."

Can you post an online source for your statistics about the number of homeschoolers in America?

No assimulation, no English, and U.S. citizens are footing a whale of a tax bill paying for their free county health care, schooling, (in many states) voting rights, and citizenship for all the illegals' babies. My great gripe with Dubya is that he turns a blind eye to the "reconquista" going on. U.S. citizenship seems to mean nothing anymore, except we get to pay the taxes.

Illegals vote Democratic. And the Left is invested in keeping even legal immigrants English-illiterate, which is why they push slow-track ESL. Immersion works; they don't want what works. They want another government-dependent subclass.

With all due respect, I think Lizavetta has found the mark on this one. I homeschool my three and I HAVE followed Benny's career, and oh so well. These big government "conservatives" generally have an accomplice who works their scam on the liberal parallel universe. Consider Marry Matlin/James Carville or here, Benny and his brother who was (My Gosh!) Clinton's lawyer.

I hate to distract from an otherwise wonderful thread, but it's all a game [call it "posturing for dinero"] with those folks

You asked if the "No Child Left Behind Act" (NCLB) is Pres Bush's....

Answer; Sure is, and it has been around for a long time. ALthough it pre-dates this, I will start with Pres George H Bush, when Clinton was Governor of Arkansas (Clinton helped shape "America 2000"), then shows up again as "Goals 2000" when Clinton is Pres.(he added some goals)and now is called "NO Child Left Behind". It is all the same legislation with some modifications along the way. It has just grown bigger and more controlling from the top down. Makes every state education department "accountable" to the feds (they will deny this, noting that it is vouluntary). Creates a School-to-work training system. Note that Sen Kennedy, who stood along side at the signing is Chair of the Education and Workforce Training Committee.

All the same programs, only the names have changed, to "confuse" the innocent. (sarcasm off)

Forgot to add that this study is several years old, so there are many more homeschoolers today, including my own three boys!

An excellent comment.

Historically all successful machine politics have relied on the votes of non-English speaking immigrants, and keeping them monolingual. However if you look at threads hereabouts concerning this year's Florida election, it seems like the big government "conservatives" are copying this tool from their liberal bretheren. Polls indicate that Senor Jeb is now leading among voters who speak absolutely no English, and his handlers are gearing his fluent-Spanish ads to the same.

I might add, brilliant politics! Nonetheless it's another reason to remember that liberals and big government "conservatives" are the reverse sides of the same coin.

Well, California started threatening homeschoolers but I haven't heard a case of truancy being brought against a homeschooler yet this year. The R4 affidavits are in. When are the districts going to go after the "truants"?

My guess is they probably aren't. Perhaps they're waiting until after the elections, I really don't know. But until they enact a homeschooling law in California, I don't think they have the grounds to do so if people are legally registering under the R4 private school affidavit.

And guess what? Homeschoolers are exempt from these "assessments" under the No Child Left Behind Act thanks to HSLDA.org.

Our four children have always been homeschooled. I see and am thankful for the incredible results

We've only been homeschooling for four years (oldest was going into 3rd grade when we started), so we've had a chance to see a real difference in our family dynamics. Our three boys really enjoy playing together now, and get along so much better. This carries over into their relationships with their friends and participation in group activities, too.

In addition to the many other benefits, this was one I hadn't anticipated, but am thrilled to see!

"Illegals vote Democratic."

Let's start there. Illegals should not vote at all, and making sure that they do not, falls on us. At least that's the way The Founders set the whole thing up.

Article 1.

Section. 4.

Clause 1:

The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.

Now, unless I've missed it, the US Congress has yet to pass a law forcing the States to allow illegal immigrants to vote, it is up to each individual County to stop this from happening.

That's the first part of the answer.

The second part is two-fold.

Number one is that the total number of illegals sneaking in to vote would be meaningless if we, as citizens, would take our civil duties more seriously, and managed to get to the polls at more than 50% for presidential elections, and 37% for non-presidential election years.

Well, thank you. My father, who has been dead for over 20 years, always said public education was a racket.

It's all about money. States are raising their school leaving age and lowering their entry age. They deserve all the grief they get, because as you and I both know, it's all about money. It has nothing to do with "education."

The second part of that two-fold answer is to get involved in the electoral process by working the precints on election day, or running for office.

Self-governance means just that. The Founders set up an interactive system of government, not an spectator sport.

HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association) does a fantastic job of staying on top of legislation issues. They really came through for us in Minnesota last year when a Senate bill threatened to tighten regulations on homeschoolers. (we were part of the crowd at the State Capitol!)

Minnesota home schoolers defeat attempts at more regulation http://www.hslda.org/docs/news/hslda/200103220.asp

"What's different about immigration today is that there's no desire among immigrants to be American. At best, this is just plain *rude*."

I have dozens of studies, editorials, census figures, and articles that can prove that statement to be not true.

Immigrants have always assimilated, against all the doubts, and predictions of their imminent destruction of the American way of life by native citizens.

"...measures of great Temper are necessary with the Germans: and am not without Apprehensions, that thro' their indiscretion or Ours, or both, great disorders and inconveniences may one day arise among us; Those who come hither are generally of the most ignorant Stupid Sort of their own Nation, and as Ignorance is often attended with Credulity when Knavery would mislead it, and with Suspicion when Honesty would set it right; and as few of the English understand the German Language, and so cannot address them either from the Press or Pulpit, 'tis almost impossible to remove any prejudices they once entertain. Their own Clergy have very little influence over the people; who seem to take an uncommon pleasure in abusing and discharging the Minister on every trivial occasion. Not being used to Liberty, they know not how to make a modest use of it; and as Kolben says of the young Hottentots, that they are not esteemed men till they have shewn their manhood by beating their mothers, so these seem to think themselves not free, till they can feel their liberty in abusing and insulting their Teachers. Thus they are under no restraint of Ecclesiastical Government; They behave, however, submissively enough at present to the Civil Government which I wish they may continue to do: For I remember when they modestly declined intermeddling in our Elections, but now they come in droves, and carry all before them, except in one or two Counties; Few of their children in the Country learn English; they import many Books from Germany; and of the six printing houses in the Province, two are entirely German, two half German half English, and but two entirely English; They have one German News-paper, and one half German. Advertisements intended to be general are now printed in Dutch and English; the Signs in our Streets have inscriptions in both languages, and in some places only German: They begin of late to make all their Bonds nad other legal Writings in their own Language, which (though I think it ought not to be) are allowed good in our Courts, where the German Business so encreases that there is continual need of Interpreters; and I suppose in a few years they will be also necessary in the Assembly, to tell one half of our Legislators what the other half say; In short unless the stream of their importation could be turned from this to other colonies, as you very judiciously propose, they will soon so out number us, that all the advantages we have will not in My Opinion be able to preserve our language, and even our Government will become precarious."
Benjamin Franklin

The exemption from the assessments varies from state to state. Home-schoolers in Massachusetts turned out in record numbers several years ago to protest pending legislation that would have required their participation in MCAS. They won a "stay". They could "choose" to have their students take them or not. That was well before the assessments and many of the standards were in final draft form. The assessments at that time had not reached the "high stakes" level that they are nearing now. I would urge you remain vigilant. Some states are nearing the point where you will need that Assessment Seal on your record if you want to go on to any level of higher education. Then what?

A few weeks ago, all scholarship pointed to a young, white, solitary white male as the Beltway shooter.

Our ancesters assimiliated because they HAD to. They also WANTED to, by and large. They didn't have the privilege of bringing their country with them with full financial support of the host country.

I wholeheartedly endorse generous immigration laws. We need and want lots of legal immigrants--from many countries!--, coming in an orderly and lawful fashion. But now the first experience immigrants have is scoffing and shrugging and disrespecting those same laws, rebuffing even the friendly communities in which they find themselves, even while making free use of all the services that are supported by those communities.

The present situation will lead to dislocations and many stresses.

Somewhere on FR there is a thread where one approach to stop homeschooling would be to charge the parents with truancy since they were not attending public school with the consent of the parent. Forgive me but I don't have the time to look it up. It might have been in the San Francisco area ... I know for sure that it was definitely in California. From what I read as a follow up, Prosecutors were going to ignore it ... for now. It was the NEA and some other organization pushing for this.

Okay, I'll try to find it for you. If need be I'll send the link privately if I can't locate it quickly. Best REgards, Nancy
