"... Did anyone here over 30 think we'd ever be rooting for the Russians?" Yes, but I'm just past 30 and only started feeling kindly towards them about eight years ago.

From a Marine to those who might once have been our ideological foe, I have one thing to say... Semper Fi
I'll second that.
Semper Fi Spetnaz. Keep up with the wolves.

Very Good Post Southhack,
The problem with these Muslim terrorist is that they are guided by their hatred and have a problem seeing the things you have pointed out. When ever emotions are allowed to enter into the equation, Emotions will get you killed or foil your plans.
These radical Islamic terrorist are losing the battle and with actions like what we have seen in Moscow with Chechnyan Muslims terrorist taking innocent people hostage in a theatre and threatening to kill them all. More and more these terrorists are acting on emotions and the entire world is seeing them for what they are. RUTHLESS KILLERS without any justification for their actions.
When enough of the pathetic group of limp wristed liberal leaders around the world get a good taste of what happens when you allow these bastards to expand their numbers and spread their hatred in their countries, maybe they will wake up, I'm glad we have a President who isn't scared to call these people by their proper name .....EVIL

Dozen ambulance at front, 25 more standing by, at least a dozen left earlier with victims. Sounds like a makeshift triag inside, and a good number of wounded.

Exactly.
Like the palestinians... it is the *methods* that now must be put down. Whether there ever was at one time a valid complaint has been made irrelevant by the methods they have *chosen* to use. The intentional and brutal killing of innocents must be shown to lose and lose big. They have chosen the path and it is up to the civilized world to show now where that path leads.

Blood is thicker than water and these Islamofacists are going to find out Bigtime. The Russians don't have to play the PC games we do in America, I expect them to bomb some poor little Islamic country heavily in the next few days.
Amen to that !

CNN: children may have been shot
Yeah I just heard that too...I hope there's nothing to this and that they're just going to look at the kids because they haven't had anything to eat for the past few days.

poor choice of words, make that a sizable number of wounded.

Maybe if I were a firefighter.
Read it tomorrow.

Did anyone here over 30 think we'd ever be rooting for the Russians? Never, never, never, never. I remember in 6th grade, a teacher went to Russia and had "show and tell" with slides he took (long long lines to get only one item, i.e., milk, then another long long line to get another item, i.e., bread, etc.)......there was nothing but distrust for them....
Then, when Gorbechov (sp?) "tore down the wall," I had nothing but distrust.....I felt it was insincere and a method or strategy to do something to us.....of late, and only of late, have I started to have any trust for that government....very curious turnaround (there is still, however, in the back of my mind, distrust, but not nearly as strong).

There were a lot of Freepers pondering that, given the
mines and explosives, gassing what the only idea that
had much chance of avoiding a catastrophe.

It is hard to determine who was right and who was wrong during cold war. No it's not. The communists were wrong, and there are still plenty of them about, just not so many in Russia, and those that are left are mostly pretty discredited. It wasn't free Capitalists that murdered folks by the millions because they were "intellectual", in some cases meaning they wore glasses, or were small farmers who didn't want to be collectized, but just to grow food for themselves and the city folks. The Russian government is still a pretty authoritrian bunch, but they are no longer meglamaniacs.
