Free Republic's Technical Problems
Posted on 10/25/2002 2:13:30 PM PDT by per loin
Of late, FR seems plagued with slowdowns. Is this a temporary problem or is some limit being approached?

I have only been able to log on maybe 2 times today. I have been denied access due to too many people either hitting the page at the same time or technical probs.

Looks like Boston has a problem but between LA and San Fran is FAST!! Unless we have to go thru Boston. Hmm!
Adelphia is out of Philadelphia. Surely I don't have to go thru there!

As we both work in Houston, I suggest we just step out on the street in front of your building and ask the first one hundred people we see "who do you trust, lawyers or guys who have spent their entire life in the oilfield?" That's not exactly representative, since the oilfield trash line up outside my building every morning to bring breakfast goodies to all the lawyers who really run the oil business from inside the building.
Let's just look at who the people elect to run the country.
Lawyers or oilfield trash, that is the question...

Here is a weird deal. I can see on this thread that posts 61-68 are listed, but when I click on those, I only get posts 61 and 62. Refreshing doesn't help. I am posting this to see if posting a reply somehow gives me access.

If you happen to see my reply, I am still stuck at only being able to read reply #62. I can't get any others to appear. Very strange!

When I do a self search I have to wait for something like 300k of material to download everytime. It takes a long time on a dial up. I wish I could limit it to the last 5 posts or something like that. Could this be slowing things down?

I suggested on another thread that John Rob put a cookie on each user. A simple cookie that notes if you are a donor to Free Republic. DUers, newbies, snoops or Freeploaders would not have this computer.
Then during times of over load, the server bounces off the the Freeploaders and then keeps them from logging on in the first place.
I was told by another Freeper that we can't do this. I hear this is what financial sites do. If you are a customer, you can get on and stay during heavy hit time. If not you are off and can't get back on.
Apparently earlier this week, some unfriendlies tried to crash the net. I have a financial service that uses a direct connect modem, and I wanted to go to their system via the internet. The guy that I talked to said that with the close call the internet had earlier this week, he would recommend not making the change at this time.
Last but not least on another conservative site that went belly up a few years ago, thousands of the infected ones from DU would log on this conservative site and stay on all day. Making a few posts and stuff to stay on. This just killed that site. It would take forever to log on and longer to post a reply or a thread.
I'm sure with the knowledge of the Nation of Islam sniper and the death of the senator, a lot of infected maggots are on FR to see just what we are posting on those two subjects.

As a web hoster I can attest to the fact that there are days that any website might fly as well as a Twin Beech King Air over the Iron Range.

The internet health report is based on the biggest backbones, but some little ones can cause problems, also.
